EastEnders has announced that actor Matthew James-Bailey has joined the cast of the BBC soap as DC Craig Ingram and will be "introduced as part of a major new storyline that will unfold over the coming months".
Announcing James-Bailey's casting, EastEnders said: "Craig is a younger colleague of Jack's (Scott Maslen), brought in to take over his workload when Jack's boss begins to suspect he is struggling to balance the demands of work with Denise's (Diane Parish) ongoing cancer treatment but is quickly working on a case, close to Albert Square..."
James-Bailey said: "Joining EastEnders has been a dream come true.
"From it being the soundtrack to my childhood, always on in the background at home, to gathering around the TV with my family every Christmas, being able to play even a small part in such an iconic piece of British television is truly surreal."
"We're delighted to welcome Matthew to EastEnders, and he has been a fantastic addition to the cast," said executive producer Ben Wadey.
"Craig's presence in Walford forms part of a storyline involving the Brannings that will unfold this summer."
EastEnders airs on RTÉ One and BBC One Monday to Thursday.
