Des Cahill breaks silence as Dáithí Ó Sé confirmed to take over RTÉ’s Up for the Match

A new line-up for RTÉ’s Up for the Match has been confirmed with Dáithí Ó Sé, Jacqui Hurley and Louise Cantillon set to co-front the 2026 version of the popular show.

However, much loved sports presenter Des Cahill, who has co-fronted the annual show since 2005, will not be involved.
Des, who first presented the show with Gráinne Seoige and then Jacqui Hurley, wished Dáithí all the best and revealed he thought he was a great fit, telling the Irish Independent: “I think it’s a great line-up. Dáithí will be in his element. They have covered Kerry, Cork and Limerick being in the finals,” he said.

“But what will they do when the Dubs surprise everyone?”
RTÉ’s plans for the pair of GAA-themed shows suffered a setback after podcasters ‘The 2 Johnnies’ pulled out of the revamped edition of the show.
There was recently a lengthy tendering process for the contract for the show, which is being made independently for the first time, with the show’s producers opting to introduce a new line-up which includes Dáithí Ó Sé and Louise Cantillon.
The tender was won by Green Inc, which was co-founded by Patrick Kielty. However, his participation as a host were reportedly a non runner, given his still undetermined status with regards to the 2026 season of the Late Late Show.

Next month will see the shows which feature a mixture of music and chat with special guests, GAA experts and excited fans airing on July 18 and July 25 ahead of all the excitement of the annual GAA showdowns the following day.
