Hi All,
Forwarding you all a small write-up on the experience of the Vibha - Bangalore volunteers with the HEARDS kids. HEARDS is one of our project partners located at Chittoor, AP The kids in the pics are rescued child labors who are getting prepared to be mainstreamed in the regular education system. With Vibha's support, HEARDS run 3 bridge schools where these kids' basic education, nutrition and psychological needs are taken care of.
As a result of this long partnership between Vibha and HEARDS, there is complete eradication of child labor from its one of the slums.
Thanks,
Zankhana.

Hi,
please share with you action centers.

Hey Team,
Our Visit to HEARDS
was excellent. I would like to share a few details with everyone.
I, Venky Rajesh and
Edward started our wonderful journey, We left Bangalore early in the morning
and reached Chittor by 8.58. We called Sajan (From HEARDS) and he guided
us the way towards the special school. We reached the place by 9.15 PM.
We interacted with
Sajan and 4 teachers for fifteen minutes and we planned earlier to conduct
the games on terrace but we found a empty space (Kind of ground) opposite
to the school We all noticed that its a big ground so therefore we decided
to have all activities in that space.
We reached the ground
by 9.40 and we carried few juice bottles with us so therefore as we wanted
the kids to be comfortable we served the juice and they started talking
with us,
We started with the
first intro game by mixing all the 4 color friendship bands, they
were yellow, pink, green and purple color. As decided earlier we asked
them to pick one friendship band and later formed 4 groups with those colors.
I was in Purple color
group, pink color Venky, Green color Edward, Yellow color Rajesh. We asked
the kids to choose a animal as a group name, make noise of that animal
and get us a team leader for the group.
Team purple named there
group as Elephant, pink - Cat, yellow - lion, green - tiger and I must
say kids where very enthusiastic and they gave us the team leader very
quickly.
By around 10.30 we
started the games, We planned games with all four groups. I played
first with Elephant group, then cat. lion and at the end with tiger, similar
others also did and we played the below mentioned games and everyone had
a chance to concentrate with a smaller group and we were able to give attention
to all 40 kids by dividing them in a group of 10
I am also sharing few
pictures below:

Lunch: We all had lunch
together, it was nice lunch.

Teachers are kids here
see the fun with bubbles:

We completed all the
games by 12.30 and then we went to see their classroom & asked
them want they wanted to be , we were amazed by hearing their
ambitions,as many chose the noble profession of teachers, Police, Military
of which 1 wanted to be optician, collector and other a nurse.
The kids told us that
they liked all the games some of them told that their favorite games from
the above 10 games.. we also asked them what kind of games they would like
us to plan for the next time, they mentioned about few games which they
wanted us to play with them like Cricket, tennis, Shuttle etc and also
the games which we played today.
Teachers informed
us that they divided the kids into different groups.
Group A - those
who do not know anything
Group B - Those
who know the English alphabets
Group C - Those
who know to frame words
Group D - Those
who know to frame sentence.
Teachers are very helpful
and caring. They make sure that the kids are understanding what is taught,
The subjects which they teach are English, Hindi, Maths and Telugu. They
informed us that as these kids are trying hard to learn and they motivate
them on regular bases and make sure that they get the basic educations.
Sunitha teacher is
working from past 10 years so she informed that the kids are learning a
lot and she think that this is her second home and kids are a very important
part of her life. They also make sure kids eat lunch on time, The
kids are very sharp.
Many kids were very
happy by playing all those games and spending time with us and when
the teachers asked them to tell their experience. They said that they never
had such a wonderful & fun filled day and they enjoyed playing the
games, They also thanked us for spending time with them.
Sajan also thanked
us, He said that for the first time he is seeing that all the children
are smiling and enjoying, he mentioned that Vibha is been a big support
for them because of Vibha - HEARDS is now recognized by the government
bodies. government bodies now invite them for all meeting which deals with
child labor. They are working very hard.
Mid-day meals is
provided by the government of India.
We need to visit center
2 and 3, I am planning to visit the second center on October 26 and the
third center on November 24. Please block your calendars!
We distributed the
gifts which was a fancy stationery box and then at the end we left colorful
tattoo stamp on their hands
Edward's V for Victory
we have finally done this:)
A very special thank
you to Venky, Rajesh and Edward for making this a day a very special day
in my Life. Thank you Viv for helping me whenever I needed help:)
