evasi0n7 is a jailbreak program from the evad3rs. It performs an untethered jailbreak for all devices on iOS 7.0 through 7.1 beta 3, except the Apple TV. It was initially released on 22 December 2013, and became subject to controversy and criticism. On 28 December 2013, the Cydia package went live to saurik's repo.
The release of evasi0n7 was met with sharp criticism. It came without advance notice, much to the dismay of jailbreak developers, including saurik.[1] It is believed that this was done in response to Geohot trying to sell the jailbreak,[2] a claim which Geohot later brushed off. In addition, if the user's language was set to Chinese, a different app store, the TaiG app store would be installed by default. This store contained cracked versions of App Store apps and Cydia apps.[3][4] The evad3rs were reportedly unaware of the included piracy when they formed the deal, and remotely disabled that store's installation several hours later[5]. The evad3rs put out letters to the community during this - Part 1 and Part 2.
Note: evasi0n7 1.0.8 is known to cause boot loops. 1.0.8 has since been taken down from the evad3rs' website, and users are advised to use 1.0.7 unless you have an iPhone 5s/iPhone 5c running iOS 7.0 (build 11A466).
evasi0n7 is a single architecture (i386) unsigned binary. The app is self-contained, meaning it packages all of its resources into the Mach-O. Using jtool to inspect the Mach-O header of the binary shows that there is some added sections in the __DATA segment.
This means additional sections can be added using compiler flags, and these will be treated as raw data and added to the header and binary contents. Specifically they were called data_3 through data_12, and this is where the payloads used for jailbreak process are stored. At runtime, the evasi0n app was loading these data segments into memory to prepare to use them when jailbreaking.
Digging into the code in the binary, it appears as these commands are used to do a check against the address This appears to be a binary file that dictates the internal operation of the evasi0n7.app. Specifically it is known to be able to enable and disable ability to install the TaiG payloads.
The major controversy surrounding this release was that the evasi0n7.app would do a check against the locale and language settings of the computer being run on to see if it was set to Chinese. If this check was successful, it would install the TaiG app store by default instead of Cydia, and present Cydia as a secondary option. This was quickly discovered and patched to remove this functionally by both TaiG and @Dirk_Gently.
A controversy quickly followed the release of the evasi0n7 jailbreak, when the evad3rs released it a year ago. The group of hackers responsible for the jailbreak had allegedly inked a deal with a Chinese company called TaiG to bundle their installer to the jailbreak for Chinese locals in exchange for a monetary compensation that we believed was in the amount of one million dollars. One million dollars! Unfortunately for the evad3rs, things went sideways. TaiG turned out to be an installer that facilitated piracy. The evad3rs pulled the plug on it, kissing their one million dollars goodbye.
At some point during the past week or so, the evad3rs released an update for evasi0n7, bringing the jailbreak tool to version 1.0.8. According to the change log, the software now supports build 11A466 of iOS 7.
With JailbreakCon right around the corner, it might be time for you to spice up your iPhone or iPad, not only to show support to the jailbreak community, but also to the people who brought to you evasi0n7, the jailbreak for iOS 7.
We've mentioned it several times before, but looking at the amount of emails we've received about this matter, it is worth reiterating that anyone with a jailbroken device should stay away from the newly released iOS 7.1. If you update to iOS 7.1, you will lose your jailbreak. At this time, there is no indication that evasi0n7 will be updated for iOS 7.1, quite the opposite.
Such a serious security flaw is bad for jailbreakers, because it means needing to update your device, and having to perform the jailbreak process all over again. Evasi0n7 1.0.6 was released to jailbreak iOS 7.0.6, but it's still hassle to have to back everything up, restore to iOS 7.0.6, and re-jailbreak. Due to the serious nature of the security hole, we've been encouraging folks to update, which is understandably a huge hassle for many.
Following Apple's release yesterday of iOS 7.0.6, the evad3rs have released an update to their evasi0n7 jailbreak tool. The update, which brings the tool to version 1.0.6. included a fix for an SSL connection verification issue, which turned out to be a major security flaw in the operating system.
iOS 7.0.6 was just released earlier today, and it contains a fairly serious SSL bug fix that everyone should upgrade to. Unfortunately, the latest build of Evasion7, build 1.0.5, is not yet compatible with iOS 7.0.6. But don't worry, we have you covered. We've uploaded a custom Hex-edited version of Evasi0n7 1.0.5 with the proper build numbers so that you can easily jailbreak iOS 7.0.6 after updating. Update: the evad3rs have released evasi0n7 1.0.6 with support for iOS 7.0.6, so the hex-edited file is no longer needed, you can download the proper Evasi0n 7 1.0.6 file from our downloads page. Note that the steps described in this post still work. Just make sure to download the latest official version of evasi0n7.

Shortly after iOS 7.1 beta 4 was released, we learned that the update patched a key kernel exploit used in the evasi0n7 jailbreak. And today we've received word that beta 5, which was seeded to developers earlier this afternoon, patches 2 other exploits.
Developer and hacker iH8sn0w tweeted out a few moments ago that Apple has fixed the 'chown' vulnerability and 'afc sandbox escape' used by the evad3r's popular jailbreak utility in beta 5. So it looks like iOS 7.1 will indeed be the death of the iOS 7 JB...
As most of you know, Apple released a new version of iOS 7.1 for developers yesterday. It's the fourth beta for the next major update to iOS, and as you can imagine, we've been asked a number of times if it kills the month-old evasion7 jailbreak software.
Hot on the heels of yesterday's release of evasi0n7 1.0.3, evad3rs today pushed another update to the iOS 7 jailbreak tool. evasi0n7 1.0.4 provides important untether security updates as well as a fix for the iPad mini with Retina display issues.
This is the second evasi0n7 update in two days. Yesterday's release was also supposed to provide a fix for the boot loop issue that some Retina iPad mini users were affected by, yet many still encountered the problem. As the evad3rs note, evasi0n7 1.0.4 will hopefully fix this problem once and for all...

As we just told you, the evad3rs have released a new jailbreak tool called evasi0n7, and it allows you to easily jailbreak iOS 7. The good news is that the hack works with all flavors of iOS 7, which includes iOS 7.0.1, iOS 7.0.2, iOS 7.0.3, 7.0.4, 7.0.5, and 7.0.6 (iOS 7.1 cannot be jailbroken at this time).
After that it all got a bit silly, with the jailbreak group eventually forced to release a statement in which it called out at least one respected member of the jailbreak community and revealed that it did indeed have a monetary deal with a Chinese app store that saw its wares installed in devices that were set to Chinese when jailbroken. The Internet exploded again.
Just 94 days after the release of iOS 7, the team over at evasi0n have once again gifted us with their latest jailbreaking software for the newest version of iOS. The first iteration of evasi0n7 contained Chinese malware, but the subsequent release removed the malicious Chinese app store, so this evasi0n7 jailbreak should be just as safe as previous evasi0n jailbreaks were for iOS 6.
The Chinese Malware "should be" gone now? Oh yippee - great news !! Ten let me get right on this jailbreak - I so trust everything anyone does to create illegal software - and I so trust the Chinese to do what they promise. I'm sure there's no chance they put some other unknown Chinese malware in the jailbreak.
If you are already jailbroken on iOS 7 on a non-Chinese device, there is no need to re-jailbreak. But those of you who have had issues with version 1.0 may want to give this latest version a shot to see if it fixes the problem.
