I am curious as to whether anyone else has noticed a significant slow down in SAS. I have the latest version - it seems like it takes forever to load and update. I did check their forum and there is some mention of slowness, but no real answers to cause or repair. Would it be best to uninstall and reinstall? The program works as it should - it just takes much longer than it used to before this newest version.

Thanks, BB and Red Dawn, I'm thinking a reinstall is the way to go too. Bugbatter, I already have MBAM (thanks to the recommendations here). I use that more often than SAS, but I like checking with both.

I have the same problem with SAS (both loading & scan time). I find it difficult to run anything else while it is loading, I'm running the free version and problem started about a week ago. Did you have any success by deleting and re-installing?

I have noticed that it takes several minutes to update and blamed that on my dialup connection. I also notice that when shutting down or restarting that End Now box comes up for a brief time before the program finally shuts down...which it normally does before I need to press the End Now button. The scan take awhile, and it reaches a point in the registry section where the number of items doesn't change but it shows a bunch of files flying by up above.

There really wasn't a significant difference with a reinstall. It's still slower than it used to be. As ky said - the update is slow in the second half - at least 2 minutes for the full update and install. I wish I could have reported better results - it's really disappointing. I do close out SAS before shutting down. I was experiencing the same problem with shut down and the error message. It appears that the are working on a fix for the update problem. I've been checking their forums regularly to see if they are responding the reports of slow down and update problems. Here's hoping...

I haven't done an SAS download on the XP machine since late June and have version 4.26.1006. The lastest version is 4.27.1002 and that is apparently the one causing the troubles, so I am going to steer clear of it for time being. On a more postive note, the AntiVir updating problems seemed to have ceased, and A Squared Free is running and updating smoothly.

On the other hand.... :emotion-45: MBAM still refuses to update on this computer, but works just fine on the Vista XPS. I really appreciate these free products, but because of these occasional glitches, I am glad to not have the paid versions.

I would always suggest trying the command line, whether you see the MSI or not. When installing via msiexec, the MSI is rarely saved to the installation directory. Most often it is saved in one of several Windows directories (System32, Downloaded Installations, Advanced Installations, Downloaded Program Files, etc.) depending on the type of application and the OS, and often in a hex folder format. The system knows where to find the cached MSI for repair/uninstall operations.

I always suggest looking in the registry first - if the product exists under HKLMSOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionUninstall in a hex format (xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx), there is a good chance the MSI is cached locally somewhere on the PC.

I can confirm after downloading this application that it is not an MSI install, and doesn't support switches on the executable (for the free version, anyway). The closest I have come to after looking the product up online is the SuperAntiSpyware Uninstaller Assistant (who names this crap?!). You get one pop-up box, but should be able to make it go away almost before the user sees it. You will still have to decide how you're going to kick off the uninstall remotely, as BrewManNH has twice tried to point out to you.

Be aware if you are in any sort of enterprise environment, this application does not uninstall cleanly; you'll have plenty to clean in the way of leftover files and registry entries, even after the reboot.

I've been using super antispyware free for a while now and updated it but it apparently was a "trial" paid version. Now I can't update the free version. Do I have to uninstall it and start over again. I think this happened before as I couldn't update it before.

SUPERAntiSpyware is a software application which can detect and remove spyware, adware, trojan horses, rogue security software, computer worms, rootkits, parasites and other potentially harmful software applications. Although it can detect various types of malware, SUPERAntiSpyware is not designed to replace antivirus software.

SUPERAntiSpyware's virus definitions are updated several times a week[2] and generally receive a build update once a month.[3] The company claims that it is specifically designed to be compatible with other security applications, and can, therefore, be used even when other applications are incompatible with other anti-spyware products.

In 2011, SUPERAntiSpyware received a "DISMAL" rating from PC Magazine, which complained that it had no real-time protection and the lowest detection rate and lowest score in a malware removal test.[4] Both the freeware and commercial version received a 4 out of 5 star average user rating on CNET's Download.com website.[5][6]

On 16 July 2011, SUPERAntiSpyware was acquired by Support.com. The transaction was structured as an acquisition of assets with a cash purchase price of $8.5 million. All employees, including the founder, Nick Skrepetos, joined the acquirer.[7]

BitDefender antispyware part is very good if you compare it with other antivirus vendors that offers also antispyware protection. But you may not rely only on BitDefender. Because the main purpose is still antivirus.

That are my favourites. Feel free to test other antispywares. But do not install one of them that are listed on this website: Bad antispyware products and here: Another list of rogue software

Before I switched over to BD Anti-Virus 2008, I was running BD Anti-Virus ver. 10 and Ad-Aware SE Plus Edition. I wasn't having any problems. I disabled the real time detection in Ad-Aware. When I was installing BD Anti-Virus 2008, the installer recommended that I un-install Ad-Aware SE Plus. It even had an un-installer built in to the BD installer. I assumed that running Ad-Aware and BD AV 2008 concurrently was a bad idea.
