Hello.

I just installed VI-Suite 0.7 on Ubuntu 22.04.
(1) Blender 4.2 (installed using snap)
(2) EnergyPlus installed EnergyPlus-22.1.0-ed759b17ee-Linux-Ubuntu20.04-x86_64.sh for Ubuntu20.04. If there is any inconvenience, I will use VI-Suite's one.
(3) Radiance 5.3 was built from source code and installed.
(4) PyQt6 (I couldn't apt install this, so I searched Google and managed to install it.)
(5) python3-matplotlib, python3-kivy, and netgen were installed using synaptic. apt innstall will also install them.
(6) Use vi-suite07_beta5.zip.
After installing these, I installed vi-suite07_beta5.zip using blende add-ons. Immediately, I get a message saying "blender is not responding". I waited a little, closed blender once, and restarted it. Now it is installed without any problem.

I installed the same way on Windows 11. vi-suite07_beta5.zip took some time to install, but I think it is working fine. openfoam10 was installed using Docker. I plan to install it on macOS when I find time.

I have a request. I would like to confirm that it works. I have a model made with VI-suite04, but unfortunately it does not work with 0.7. Can you please give me a simple model so that I can check the simulation of heat, light and air flow. Actually, I will present the results using EnergyPlus (unfortunately not VI-Suite) at the Architectural Institute of Japan convention on the 28th of this month. I would like to demonstrate VI-Suite to my colleagues at that time.

Best regards, I have already presented an overview of VI-Suite at the Architectural Institute of Japan.

Hi.
I'll address your points in order:
1) On linux, when you install Blender using snap I believe that Blender will then use the Python installation included within the snap, rather than the system Python installation. When you install dependencies with synaptics, these get installed to the system Python installation and a snap version of Blender won't see them. On linux, the VI-Suite looks to see if it can find dependencies and if it cannot it will install them for you to the built-in Python installation, which is why Blender is hanging when you activate the VI-Suite. On linux I would recommend installing all dependencies and then Blender with the synaptics package manager if you can. If you use snap you don't need to install any dependencies as they are installed for you, but on my Arch linux systems Netgen and FloVi won't work if Netgen is installed to a built-in Python installation. Either way, on linux you will need to point the VI-Suite to an OpenFoam installation with the VI-Suite addon settings. On Windows/Mac, which always uses a built-in Python installation, all dependencies are installed for you, and Netgen/FloVi seem to work too if you have a valid OpenFoam Docker running.
2) EnergyPlus is included with the VI-Suite so you don't need to install it. If you want to use your own installation you need to point the VI-Suite to the install directory with the VI-Suite addon settings.
3) Radiance is included with the VI-Suite so you don't need to install it. If you want to use your own installation you need to point the VI-Suite to the binary and library directories with the VI-Suite addon settings.
4) VI-Suite now uses PySide6 not PyQt6. This will be installed for you, see 1).
5) See 1)

Make sure you have a copy of the VI-Suite v0.7 user manual https://blogs.brighton.ac.uk/visuite/files/2023/12/vi07_0_3.pdf
I will attach some test files, but over multiple replies to overcome attachment size limits. You will have to redo the simulation steps in these examples to recreate the project directories.

Cheers
Ryan

Hi.

Thank you for your email. I am giving up using Ubuntu 22.04 because I have a problem that I cannot solve.
I am using Ubuntu because I used Ubuntu when I wrote the book "Introduction to Building Environment Simulation with ESP-r and Radiance" (Ohmsha) about 10 years ago.
I'm still a beginner in ArchLinux, but I'm willing to give it a try, because VI-Suite is still very nice.
I am reading "RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN SPATIAL COMPOSITION AND THERMAL AND LIGHT ENVIRONMENT IN LE" by Masashi Kaneko, Masao Koizumi, Yoshie Matsumoto, and Koji Takemasa. I would like to use VI-Suite as a tool for such a research method.
Masashi Kaneko and Yoshie Matsumoto have been professors at the university since April this year, and I would like to encourage their students to use VI-Suite.
The paper is attached. Thank you very much for your help. Please keep us posted.

Regards.
