Hi All

Recently I have configured a Zimabra mail Server in my environment for
internal mail use.
It is working fine when we are sending mail internally but we are not
able to send it to external domains.
Is there any settings or any configuration needs to do.

Please guide.

Thanks
Vijay H.Vadher

Dear Vijay,

When you install zimbra server zimbra server looks for your domain externally also say www.xyz.com so your domain should be existing on external web hosting side to make zimbra to run on that domain. In you case it seems that you configured a local domain and mails are being send internally.

Please confirm the zimbra settings you have done on your side.  This link might be useful for you too http://coderoman.com/2010/04/install-and-setup-zimbra-in-centos/

Vikas

Can you please tell me how to check and correct this.
I am using a local dns server configured on Zimbra server and use my
ISP's DNS server on forwarder.
I am able to ping and dig the other internet domains.
Please note that it is my test environment so I have not registered Mx
of my mail server but still I believe it should be able to send mail
over internet.

Here I am pasting the output of tail -f /var/log/zimbra.log

Dear Vikas,

It seems that your mail server is trying to connect on A record on port 25 instead of MX record.

Aug 17 13:09:01 mail postfix/smtp[21322]: connect to  yahoo.co.in[68.180.206.184]:25: Connection timed out

Aug 17 13:09:31 mail postfix/smtp[21321]: connect to yahoo.co.in[203.84.219.114]:25: Connection timed out

to=<vadher...@gmail.com>, relay=none, delay=626, delays=596/0.11/30/0, dsn=4.4.1, status=deferred (connect to gmail.com[209.85.153.83]:25: Connection timed out)

See below nslookup output....

C:\Users\dcserveradmin>nslookup
Default Server:  backup.abc.com
Address:  192.168.14.15

set type=A
yahoo.co.in
Non-authoritative answer:
Name:    yahoo.co.in
Addresses:  203.84.219.114, 68.180.206.184 -- both the A record ips are in your mail log....

gmail.com
Address:  192.168.14.15

Non-authoritative answer:
Name:    gmail.com
Address:  209.85.153.83 - Same ip is there in your mail log...

Please check configuration also make sure that port 25 should open towards internet for your mail server.

Thanks and Regards,
Rupesh Patel

Dear Vikas,

I have no more idea about zimbra email server as i have not configure it for single time but after googling i found below point, you can just try and check...

Please check setting :-   In zimbraAdmin in global parametrs on tab MTA checkbox "enable DNS"

Please refer below link..

Info:-

Hello All

My problem is solved.Thanks for your replies,It was really very
helpful.

I set open dns ip as forwarder in named.conf

forwarders {
208.67.222.222;
};

So I assume it was a DNS problem.Now it is working fine I am able to
send mail to yahoo and gmail.But it is drop a mail in span folder of
yahoo and gmail.
Is there any additional settings to correct this ?

Thanks
Vijay Vadher
