We now do not need yahoo messenger from yahoo anymore on Linux, we use
gaim : http://gaim.sourceforge.org. As you can see, yahoo messenger
has not been updated for a very long time, last distribution it
supported was redhat9 which is now obsolete.

Gaim also comes for windows.

We can also use Kopete, which does video chat too.

Both the above messengers act as a client for multiple accounts of
google talk, yahoo, msn, irc, icq, novell etc. and tons of other IRC
clients comes packaged with most distributions.

Happy chatting

-J
