We understand that not all organizations support the use of Instant Messaging inside their networks. If you need to prevent Yahoo! Mail users on your network from chatting, we suggest blocking DNS lookups to webcs.msg.yahoo.com and httpcs.msg.yahoo.com by returning 127.0.0.1. Users will see a disconnection error if they attempt to connect to chat.

This solution is suggested by yahoo itself.

Dear Jitendra,

Just block the following url list from Squid

.messenger.yahoo.com
.msg.yahoo.com
.scd.yahoo.com
.sc5.yahoo.com
webcam.yahoo.com
filetransfer.yahoo.com

They can sign in but can't start chat.
I think it will help you, try it.

hi jitendra

well you want blocked any kind of site through squid (not dnsgaurdian).so you just check first log than try to block through same site visited. fire below command on squid server

tail -f /var/log/squid/access.log | awk '{print$3 " " $8 " " $7}'

it's give site name with ip address, put in squid.conf (same as below) file same as name of site.
i hope u getting the desired results.

Regards
Milap Amin.

Dear

Not through iptables. Through squid............
Make a file in "/etc/squid/" directory named "msg.txt" and copy all ips in to that file
and then edit the squid.conf file and write as following

acl YAHOO_MSG dstdom_regex -i "/etc/squid/msg.txt"
http_access deny YAHOO_MSG

and note that write this lines before all acls
It will work.

I did the same and it worked for me. I entered both entry in /etc/hosts file and Open Yahoo Chat in Email and it's not working. It's not loading at all.

Do one thing Close your browser. Make that both entry to /etc/hosts.Clear Cookies and History and then open yahoo mail. Your yahoo chat will not loaded.

I have tested and it worked for me.

Let us know it works for you or not.
