A very old tip and trick on blocking yahoo chat messenger from connecting to internet, as per request.
Considering an approved management policies, there are several ways to block yahoo chat messenger from connecting to internet coming from inside your network, depending on what equipment and boxes you have on ground.

thans very much for your response but i had tried both the things
blocked the ports as well as url's still its not working fine. I am
not getting the desired results.
pls do suggest if u know anything

We understand that not all organizations support the use of Instant Messaging inside their networks. If you need to prevent Yahoo! Mail users on your network from chatting, we suggest blocking DNS lookups to webcs.msg.yahoo.com and http://httpcs.msg.yahoo.com by returning 127.0.0.1. Users will see a disconnection error if they attempt to connect to chat.
This solution is suggested by yahoo itself.

i had tried one thing as in /etc/hosts file. i had entered these two lines127.0.0.1 webcs.msg.yahoo.com127.0.0.1 httpcs.msg.yahoo.com
