Dear Concern,

In my office , there are four networks seperate by vlan. after that i configured intervlan then every network can ping each other. I am using fortigate firewall(100D) to use intervlan and DHCP server.

But problem:
I can ping by ip and hostname on same network but different network i can ping only ip but i cannot ping by hostname.

Could you please help me how can I solve this problem?

Thanks

If you r not able to ping by hostname then its dns not able to resolv hostname.
Check dns entries if you have dns for all network.

Could you please help me how can I solve this problem?

Hello Iftikhar,

To be able to ping an IP address but not hostname indicates an issue with DNS.

Is this happening with all IPs and their hostnames?

How is your DNS deployed ?

Check your DNS config and the A records assigned to that IP.

I know it's problem of DNS. but I can't find any solution. I am using fortigate 100D. I attached my fortigate configuration. Could you please tell me how to solve it?

I can ping google.com or any thing on internet.
but in local network, when I ping one network to another network's local pc hostname I cannot get any result. It shows

Ping request could not find host pdc1. Please check the name and try again.

Dear Iftikhar,

May I know which DNS have you configured in the firewall?  Have you added your local DNS into firewall DNS list?

Thanks & Regards,

Please check below the attached files. Here I found two DNS service:
1. system dns setting
2. specify

In vlan 20 & 30, I used system dns setting. But I cant get any result from vlan 20 to vlan 30 host name.

In vlan 10,100, I use specify but result is same.

Dear Iftikhar,

It seems proper but you may use your local DNS server and check it once. Otherwise when you ping the host name, it seems NETBIOS traffic which coverts in to concerned iP but that is also Layer2 broadcast traffice which any L3 device will drop.

Hi infikhar,

I am sure you already tried to flush DNS
If not pls flush DNS cache and check it.

Thanks,

May be you have multiple entries for host in your DNS server. For confirming same,Open a cmd in your system(Should be connected to Same DNS)

command > nslookup
 the nslookup prompt will open
then type the ip address of system which you have issue. The DNS server will list entries regarding this.. and check by typing hostname in nslookup prompt. if you can see multiple entries. raise ticket to delete entries from your AD server or QIP server.
