Hi Nirav,

You must be using some IMAP/POP3 Server for your Mail server. If you have all your User's emails in IMAP account, You can use Imapsync utility to migrate current Mailboxes to zimbra mailboxes and since Postfix is an MTA it will perform as it is in Zimbra Mail server also.

Mostly migrating one server to other mail server is always the same
process if you are not migrating on same platform.

What I suggest is : collect following information.

1. On existing mail server client are using outlook or web interface
or both.
I they are not using web interface mostly that means no mail with mail
boxes , so no worry to migration of mail.

2. If they are using web interface then check how what the % amount of
sub folders people used. There are lots of problem when people use
subfolder and we need to migrate.

3. Use some tools like fetchmail or imapsync ( as suggested by Mr.
Ajay ) to get mail from existing to new server.

4. For user migration also you need to have information about mail
user account. It is stored in /etc/passwd or mysql or any db or LDAP.

5. Just collect the mail account information and get it in text based
file.

6. Now also check in new mail server what back hand you are going to
use mysql or ldap or /etc/passwd.

Then you need to design shell script to convert old mail account to
new mail account.

I found above is most universal approach.

We have migrated lots of mail server starting from 25 user to 4500
users within 2-3 days max. and with different mta and pop/imap server
( dovecot, courier imap, cyrus etc )

Let us have exact information I can try to help you.

Hi,

My current mail sever is configured in PLESK, and plesk is using
qmail. More than 30 domains in PLESK.
People are using outlook for mail fetch, but still we need to migrate
all mails from user's account. It is production
so we cant take risk.

In Plesk mail account is stored in mysql database and in Zimbra mail
account is stored in LDAP.
Zimbra used mysql for mail indexing.

Now can you help me to migrate plesk to zimbra?

Regards,
Niraj

1. Take a backup of mysql database of existing server for detail.
2. Create all domain manually on zimra server. ( it is around 30 so no
problem )
3. For migration of user account first get information of user and
convert it in to LDIF file through script.
4. Import the LDIF file to new zimra server.
5. Now send test mail to all local account manually and confirm mail
can be received.
6. Use fetchmail to download all the mail from existing server to new
zimra server. ( As all are using outlook they should not have any
subfolder on server so fetchmail is fair and fast ).
7. Check all mails are migrated and send test mail also by sending and
receiving mail.
8. :) thats it.!!

Let us know if you face any problem.

Because Zimbra itself runs on Postfix, one of the most scalable, proven email
server technologies in the world, migrating from any other Postfix server is
made easier. Among others, server+ exam [1] options include being able to
migrate just some mailboxes, as you need, over an extended period of time.
These options generally apply to both the 01.com shared hosting environment,
security+ exam [2] to dedicated servers hosted with 01.com, and also to
Zimbra servers we may help you install and to which you migrate at your own
office or network+ exam [3] data center. Please contact us for more
information about Postfix to Zimbra migrations.
