CY2027 is now Final and will be effective from January 1st 2027. The
website at
https://vfxplatform.com has been updated accordingly. Some
of the change highlights:
- Minimum version of glibc bumped to 2.34, for Enterprise Linux and
derived distributions, this means a transition from 8.x to 9.x
- On Windows, the platform now specifies the minimal Visual Studio
build tools version (v14.44) rather than the overall Visual Studio
version
- Expected version updates for VFX specific packages
Some specific packages which remain unchanged from 2026:
- Qt remains at 6.8.x since the next 6.12 LTS release is coming too
late for inclusion
- Python remains at 3.13.x for compatibility with Qt 6.8.x
- macOS Minimum Deployment Target remains at 14.0 for compatibility
with Qt 6.8.x
Confirmation of versions for OpenColorIO, OpenEXR and OpenSubdiv will
follow by early October, and OpenVDB by early November pending the
timely release of new versions. As always, if any major issues are
discovered with CY2027 they will be shared here to decide whether
a late change is required.
CY2028 will aim to include versions required to help with the Wayland
transition on the Linux platform, likely including Qt 6.12.x LTS or
newer.
