Here's an interesting article written by Christian Schaller, one of the Fedora and GNOME leads.
Fedora Workstation: Our Vision for Linux Desktop
Fedora isn't always a perfect fit for VFX, but it's the upstream distro that eventually gets filtered and turned into RHEL and then all of the distros that are downstream from RHEL, so it's relevant. He covers some of the more important topics such as Wayland, Pipewire, hardware support, software distribution and packaging, etc.
I think Christian is on this list too, so if you have questions, he should be able to reply.
