BoF Recap & New Studio Linux Survey

Huge thanks to those who were able to join our Birds of a Feather session at SIGGRAPH this morning. 

We announced a new 2024 VFX/Animation Studio Linux Survey aimed at studios to help us all better understand where we stand with the current state of Linux distros on artist workstations.

Please respond at https://bit.ly/VFXsrv24 by August 23rd. We'll be scheduling our annual virtual User Group / Town Hall for early September and plan to present the results there. We'd love to have responses from every VFX and Animation studio, large and small.

At the BoF today we had some good discussions around many topics. For those that were there please feel free to reply-all to this email to share what you heard for those that couldn't make it.

The main topic of discussion turned out to be USD and the challenges around versionitis. There was a clear call to action for the whole community to flag compatibility and adoption issues with both software vendors and the USD community. Without sharing those experiences, the challenges may not be recognized or addressed as quickly as we need.
