*Travel grants for 10 Asian science journalists to learn data journalism
skills with world-renowned data journalists and experts *
*Where: At the 9th World Conference of Science Journalists in Seoul,
Korea & Post-WCSJ tour to Fukuoka, Japan*

*Science journalism COOPeration (SjCOOP) Asia *is a flagship
project of the World Federation of Science Journalists (WFSJ). Building
professional capacity of journalists in Asia in the field of health,
environment, energy, agriculture and other science and technology issues,
SjCOOP Asia organizes a training workshop this year on data journalism. The
WFSJ is *looking for 10 science journalists from Southeast and South Asia*
aspiring to learn data journalism skills during the 9th World Conference of
Science Journalists (WCSJ).
 
*The travel will consist of two parts:* During the Conference, the
participants will be invited to attend a two-day workshop on data
journalism. A post-Conference tour to Fukuoka (Japan) will follow. The
Fukuoka tour will be organized by the Japanese Association of Science and
Technology Journalists (JASTJ). *Benefits and schedules*
 
The travel grants cover WCSJ registration fees, international flights
(round trip from/to your home country-Korea and Japan), travel visas,
accommodation in Seoul and Fukuoka, and meals.
 
The participants will benefit from:
 
- A two-day intensive workshop on data journalism on Monday June 8 and
Tuesday June 9, 2015. (Mainly for beginners-to-intermediate)
- Free access to all the sessions during the 9th World Conference of
Science Journalists (WCSJ) in Seoul, Korea, Monday June 8 to Thursday June
11, 2015
- Participation in the post-Conference tour to Fukuoka, Japan from
Friday June 12 to Saturday June 13

for more information on the Conference. *Eligibility Criteria*
 
Journalists specialized in the coverage of health, agriculture, energy,
environment, and other science and technology issues are welcome to apply.
Journalists attending will be expected to publish articles and/or program
content using data journalism skills.
 
- Currently working as journalist or freelance for print, online, or
broadcast media outlets
- Specialized in health, agriculture, environment, energy, and other
science and technology issues;
- Nationals of Southeast or South Asian countries;
- Commitment to follow the workshop schedules and fully participate in
the program (from June 8 to June 13);
- Commitment to produce data-driven stories/contents following the
workshop (in your working language);
- Able to understand and actively participate in English-speaking
workshops;
- Must be able to obtain BOTH Korean and Japanese entry visa before May
15.
 
If you are selected, the WFSJ and the JAST Journalists will provide
official invitation letters for your visa process. However, it is your
responsibility to obtain the required travel visas.
 
*Important: *The final criterion in the search for a winner will be the
proposed plan for the data-based stories/contents that will be
produced/published using data journalism skills on science-related issues.
The stories/contents do not need to be in English. However, you will be
asked to share with us your published stories/contents.

1. CV in English including your coordinates (Country and city of
residence)
2. Scanned identification page of your passport (your passport must be
valid at least for 8 months at the time of your application for this
scholarship)
3. Internet link or electronic file of your best story *related to
science topics*, including title, name of the media, and publication
date **The sample article will be in your working language*.
4. Very detailed plan for your data-driven story/contents publication*
(in English, including potential topics, research plan, types of data, data
analysis method, potential help from your newsroom, approval from your
newsroom, and any other information you consider important) **In your
plan, please indicate that you are committed to fully participate in the
program, and share your data-based stories/contents that you will publish
following the workshop*.
 
**Your data-driven story/contents can be published in other languages than
