Boys,

Sad news, Mitch Biunno passed away.

Mitch was a VFC legend, playing with the squad for many years and staying in touch with the boys long after his playing days ended.  He was a glue guy, a locker room guy, keeping up with everyone on the team, their wives and family.  VFC was like family to Mitch, and he cared deeply for everyone who was on the squad.  He was one of the “owners” and helped guide the Club over many years.  He also took the new players aside and introduced them the VFC way.

While Mitch made great contributions to the Club off the ice, his on-ice contributions were not as legendary.  A winger with some scoring potential, his defensive game was not exemplary.  He even had a jersey made with the name “Nobackcheckski” on the back to make sure everyone understood his role.

Mitch cherished the camaraderie of the sport; the laughter in the locker room, the thrill of the game, the silent respect shared between competitors and a couple of beers after the game. These moments, these shared experiences, are what meant the most to Mitch.

Mitch was one of a kind and will be missed by all. Please keep him in your thoughts.  I am pretty sure there is no backchecking in heaven which should suit his game well.

I will pass along any details about arrangements.
