Hello folks,
Thought I would put this on a thread of its own. So the "rules" are:
Tie ONE fly of your choice.
Post a photo on thisa thread of the fly along with the recipe.
Room for as many of you that want to join in.
Age must be OVER 50 (days old!!)
Do all this with no worries about deadlines, post costs, tying hundreds of flies etc etc.
It can even be a photo of your favourite fly that you tied 20 years ago!!
So far there is
Peggy Brenner
Gary Webb
Rene Zillman
Me
Look foreward to hearing from you and seeing your flies.

Best from Blighty

Hi Keith,

I'm wondering if we should not collect the fly images and create one post with all flies on our Facebook-group. Would be a new sort of swap/post-master. This would require a deadline for sure. Each tyer would later add the recipe / materials list in an comment for the fly.

What are you and the others thinking?

Best

René

Byard,
Those were some of my favorites as well (the big caddis swaps)!  I really miss the old days!

I just tried sending my submission from my camera and ring light setup, and I'm not sure if it went through or not. Could someone please let me know? I'm not seeing anything sent from myself to the group, so I have no way of knowing if it went through.

While here, I might as well say the recipe for the fly:

Hook: 7xl streamer
Body: orange floss
Rib: 11 wraps silver oval lagartun tinsel
Throat: 5 to 7 fronds bronze peacock herl overlaid first with yellow then white bucktail
Wing: baby blue hackle "pad" overlaid with slightly smaller grizzle[y] hackle "pad", with excess baby blue showing above grizzle[y]. (The original says grizzle, I added the y, and I added the quotes around pad, as it means a pair of hackle tips)
Cheek: Mallard flank or teal extended long, 1/2 to 3/4 the shank length
(Optional, I omitted): Cheek overlay, jungle coque
My fly's head is WAY more pronounced than I would have liked, but hey... I'm an old fart and the eyes are going on me...
Hope the picture went through OK.
-Pete

Let's try this one again...
A Rangeley lakes streamer called "Lake Messalonski Streamer". This holds a special place in my heart as every summer our family travels to Maine and stays right on the edge of Lake Messalonski. It is a newer pattern, because in the time of Rangeley streamers first being vogue, the Lake was known as "long pond".

I have been concentrating on Euro nymphing for the last while so I will share a recent tie.  It is an olive flash perdigon.  I’m sending the fly photo first and then the tying instructions.  Sorry I am not a whiz on computers.

Mayfly.jpg
Here you go folks. My modified Mohican Mayfly. Its original pattern was tied by Oliver Edwards who passed away last month. This is a simpler version of his fly.

Recipe
Hook Size 10 Sprite Barbless Grub hook
Thread  Brown 8/0 Semperfli Classic Waxed
Tail Moose mane
Extended body  Cream 2mm foam sheet cut to 2mm wide. Body is made on a pin.
Wing Deer Hair
Hackle Parachute style Blue Dun. Use Grizzly too.
Thorax. There is no thorax in the recipe but I tidied it up with a bit of peacock hearl to cover all the thread turns.

If you vary the pin diameter for the body you can make the body in different sizes and colours. Ive done them down to a size 18.
Being foam it makes the fly float really well too.

Enjoy
