Dear vexim users,

we are happy to announce the release of Vexim 2.3. The major changes -
along with many bug fixes and smaller improvements - are:

- Passwords can now be hashed using stronger algorithms (e.g. SHA-512)
- Clear-text passwords are no longer stored next to their hashed forms
- Password complexity checks prevent setting passwords that are too
simple
- It is now possible to generate random passwords when creating users
- Vexim now uses PDO for database access instead of the PEAR-DB
libraries
- Short PHP opening tags have been replaced with "normal" ones
- UTF-8 is now used throughout the web interface and in the database
- New Russian and Italian translations, improved German translation
- SpamAssassin can now be easily disabled or enabled for all users
within a domain
- Users can now decide whether Spam should be automatically moved to a
Spam folder, or ditched
- Login page now has just one field for the username (instead of two
separate fields for localpart and domain)

The release can be downloaded from our github-repo:
https://github.com/vexim/vexim2/releases where you will also find
detailed upgrade instructions.

We want to thank all users and developers for their contribution to this
release.

Hey developers,

thank you very much for the new version. I'm happy that vexim is still under development and I apprecitate the improvements.
I just have one question about the new version: Will we still be able to optional use the two input fields for the username?
I really liked that feature, it helped me a lot with host and password management and I think I would miss it a lot if it was completely gone.

Best wishes

Chris

No, this feature is now gone, and I don't think we'll be bringing it
back. We have a pull request on file, which adds customizes username
functionality, and such functionality would most likely be incompatible
with split login field. Furthermore, we tend to think that it's not a
very good idea to expose the list of domains you're serving to everyone.

Regarding password management, I myself simply allow my browser to store
passwords for all logins I use with Vexim. I think this works even
better with single login field, because now the browser can't be
confused by multiple postmaster logins, and won't ask if I want to
overwrite my saved postmaster password when in fact I'm logging in as
the postmaster for a different domain than the one saved previously.

If this doesn't cover your use-case, then please explain it in more
detail, and with us and we'll see what we can do. Perhaps there are
other ways to meet your needs than to reintroduce split login fields? :)

Regards,
Rimas

Hi Chris,

you might want to take a look at the domainguess-feature: You can enable
it and it is supposed to take the domain-name from the URL (works for
sub-domains mail.*). It means you can access mail.domain1.com and login
as "user1" and this feature automatically adds "@domain1.com".

It is planned to extend this feature to configurable sub-domains:
