“If you build it they will come” – field of dreams

My experience in the profession began with ride-alongs back in my
undergrad days at Humboldt State with Dr Les Douglas. The setting was
very James Herriot, we had wonderful adventures – too bad I lack the
writer’s skills… Dr Douglas reminded me on many occasions that our
role as veterinarians is to be teachers and to give back to our
community and our profession! Dr Douglas was wise; humble an
outstanding mentor and model of what is great about our profession. I
never lost sight of his message to me about the role and
responsibilities that comes with being a veterinarian. Part of the
act of giving back is to support, encourage, teach and listen (learn)
from each other.

This site is a result of a lot of road time, my favorite activity is
running – but I promise I will try to leave out the analogies. I
wanted to create a means for collaboration and collegiality which I
feel at times has been lost or perhaps just we get so caught up in our
own daily activities… My hope is that this group can bring together
a community, share our challenges and look towards what is possible.

One of my areas of interest is healthcare informatics – that is how we
leverage the tools available to improve our knowledge and ultimately
enhancing patient care. I certainly have my opinion of the future of
the profession but am very interested in thoughts of others (yours).
