CLARKSBURG, WEST VIRGINIA – Christina Nolte, 52, of Bridgeport, West
Virginia, has admitted to the theft of public money, United States
Attorney Matthew L. Harvey announced.
According to filed documents and statements made in court, Nolte
falsified medical records to receive disability benefits from the
Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). Nolte fraudulently used her
disability to have her federal student loans in the amount of $242,528
discharged.
As a part of the plea agreement, Nolte has agreed to the forfeiture
and a money judgement in amount of $360,466.38.
Nolte faces up to 10 years in federal prison. A federal district court
judge will determine any sentence after considering the U.S.
Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Jennifer T. Conklin is prosecuting the case on
behalf of the government, and the matter was investigated by the
Veterans Affairs Office of Inspector General and the Department of
Education.
U.S. Magistrate Judge Michael John Aloi presided.
