Ardent Need for 24x7 Services to Assist ECHS Beneficiaries

The ECHS stands as a testament to the nation's commitment to the welfare of its veterans and their dependents. Through a vast network of polyclinics, empanelled hospitals, and diagnostic centres across India, ECHS ensures that those who once served the country receive the healthcare they rightfully deserve.

However, despite the program’s significant strides, a crucial gap persists: the absence of round-the-clock assistance. Medical needs don’t abide by working hours, and many ECHS beneficiaries find themselves struggling for guidance or approvals during late hours, weekends, or holidays. This limitation can severely hinder timely access to critical care—particularly in emergencies where minutes can make a difference.

The Case for 24x7 Support

Veterans and their families often face situations where immediate support is essential—whether it's identifying the nearest empanelled hospital, seeking emergency referral authorisation, or clarifying treatment procedures. Unfortunately, without a centralised, 24x7 helpline or support system, many are left to navigate these challenges alone, leading to distress, delays, and in some cases, compromised health outcomes.

Establishing a 24x7 assistance mechanism—such as a toll-free helpline, live chat services, or even mobile app-based emergency support—would address these gaps directly. More than a technical upgrade, this would serve as a moral and operational reaffirmation of our nation’s duty toward its veterans.

Key Impact Areas of a 24x7 ECHS Support System

  1. Emergency Medical Guidance
Quick advice and direction in critical situations could save lives, especially in areas with limited medical infrastructure.

  2. Real-time Information and Authorisations
Immediate updates on referral statuses, treatment approvals, or reimbursement queries can reduce uncertainty and bureaucratic lag.

  3. Technical Support for Digital Platforms
With the ECHS increasingly moving toward online services, continuous tech support is crucial—especially for elderly veterans less familiar with digital tools.

  4. Accessibility Assistance for Vulnerable Beneficiaries
Differently-abled or senior ex-servicemen often require personalised help in availing of services; a 24x7 system ensures they are never left without support.

A Call to Action

The call for continuous support is not merely about convenience—it is about care, dignity, and the nation's enduring responsibility to those who safeguarded its sovereignty. Our veterans did not clock out during their service; their healthcare should not either.

Implementing a 24x7 support framework under the ECHS will not only enhance service delivery but also reaffirm the nation’s gratitude in a tangible, practical manner. It is time to move from reactive support to proactive care—ensuring that no veteran stands alone in their moment of need.

Forget  what you are saying. First the site needs attention. I am not able to Login for last week

I am a proud Hindu and I believe Ahimsa, essentially, is doing everything to stop Himsa. Ahimsa is not the absence of Himsa, but the use of Sam, Dam, Danda, and Bhed to achieve peace.
People often ask me what we can do for the soldiers. The answer is "be an Indian who is worth fighting for. "See if you can be one"

Do I have enemies? Yes.Good. That means I’ve stood up for something, sometime in my life.

Dear Sir,

You are right, the ECHS portal is currently experiencing intermittent technical issues, resulting in disruptions to smooth access and navigation.

Absence of 24x7 Helpline / Emergency SupportDespite the life-critical nature of healthcare, there is no 24/7 helpline, mobile application, or online emergency support available to ECHS beneficiaries. As a result, veterans and their dependents are left stranded outside regular working hours, particularly during nights, weekends, and holidays. This systemic gap reflects gross administrative apathy and a blatant disregard for the health and lives of beneficiaries, leaving them vulnerable in times of urgent medical need.

Regards,

Dear Sir

In case of emergency you are not going to get any benefit by talking to any helpline. Just get to any hospital EP or not and save yourself.
