Dear Capt Prasoon Kumar,

thank you for yr circular. I like to compliment you on yr new venture which when successfully launched would certainly give Sainik Samachar (old Fauji Akbar) a run for its money.

Sainik samachar which was meant for publishing news  & info mostly of concern to Ex Service men, pensioners and their families who live in remote places. But the present editorial staff at Sainik samachar is busy pleasing Ministers , MOD Babus & such other personalities in the services by publishing photos & articles that please MOD.

As an example, a recent edition of Sainik Samachar devoted 18 pages coverage to Coast Guards. Simply out of proportion & Why? Was it some kind of quid pro quo.  I maybe wrong but what I write is a fact.

We do not like to see photos of the same Def Minister / MOD staff again and again. Pl pick up & publish news of interest to those who have gone home as pensioners & for whom access to useful info is difficult e.g. OROP & payment of interest on arrears from 1-1-2006, facilities for ESM & such like info. Most such info is available in AG's Br brochure and can be published piece meal along with its amendments other wise ESM keep running to DSAAB for help.

Another matter is about the kind & quality of reporters you would be depending upon for inputs to publish info in Fauji magazine.  Many so called "Self Styled" Defence Analysts proclaim themselves to be experts - whereas they left services after just few years of peace time soldiering. Many of them will bring back to you some old yarns / "Masala" / make believe stories on Indo-Pak relationships after the great divide of our country. These guys are well connected. I can give you examples but would prefer to wait for yr magazine to publish.

Such self styled defence journos will not hesitate to put any rubbish on paper (eloquently worded) for the sake of making a few bucks even if it means selling something untrue as long as it is juicy, appealing & accepted for publications.  Also beware, such journos are usually well connected within the Services / GOI babudom

I am writing this in the full knowledge of what its implications can be if proved wrong.

My good wishes are with you & your magazine.

Cordially yours,

Major Satish Khanna (Retd)
