I proudly acknowledge and applaud Lieutenant Sartaj Singh and his distinguished family for exemplifying an extraordinary five-generation legacy of service in the Indian Army.

Lieutenant Sartaj Singh’s commissioning from the Indian Military Academy, Dehradun, into the 20 Jat Regiment is not merely a personal milestone but the continuation of a rare and inspiring tradition of military service dating back to 1897. Beginning with Sepoy Kirpal Singh, who served with distinction in the Afghan campaign, successive generations of the family have upheld the highest standards of courage, discipline, and devotion to the nation. This remarkable lineage includes Subedar Ajmer Singh, Brigadier Harwant Singh, Brigadier Upinder Pal Singh, and Colonel Harvinder Pal Singh, each of whom contributed honourably to the service of the nation. The maternal lineage, too, reflects an equally distinguished record of service.

Such families embody the very ethos of the Indian Army, where honour, sacrifice, and duty are not merely spoken of but lived and passed down through generations. Lieutenant Sartaj Singh’s induction into the officer cadre reinforces the timeless bond between generations of soldiers and reaffirms the enduring strength of India’s military traditions.
