Late Col Jagjit Singh Mann was born on 15 Feb 37 in his village Muchhal, Amritsar. He was the eldest child of Lt Col Avtar Singh and Gurbachan Kaur. A diploma holder in Elec & Mech Engineering from MS University, Baroda. After working at Sarabhai Chemicals, Baroda, he joined Army and was commissioned on 07 Feb 65. In the 1965 war, he saw action in Patti, Khemkaran Sect as part of 4 Div Sig Regt. In the 1971 war he a posted in Samba Sector, J&K. After 17 years in EME he was permanently seconded to DGQA, from where he retired on 01 Jan 95. He was settled permanently in 4 Teg Bahadur Road Dalanwala, Dehradun.

He married Jyotinder Dhindsa in Jul 65 and left behind two sons, Col Amrinder Singh (Retd) and Lt Col Yadvinder Singh (Retd). He lost his wife in Jul 95 due to a Road Accident. A keen hockey player who played for College and ultimately Narmada Club Jabalpur, which had a formidable Hockey Team for several years. At Dehradun, he played high-level golf and taught/motivated several veterans like his younger brother Col Kuldeep Singh Mann.

Post-retirement, he was closely associated with local Civic Societies. A founder member of Nagrik Jagrup Society, Tegbhadur Road, Dalanwala, Shakumbri Society (promoting Organic Foods) and Dehradun Jat Sikh 

Association. He was the President of ‘The Pramukh Society’ for 15 years, where the household waste was picked up from Door to Door of Dehradun City until the task was taken over by Nagar Nigam. He also helped ONGC in designing the two new environmentally friendly funeral pyres at Lakhibagh Crematorium, Which led to the saving of about 250 kg of wood per funeral. A lifelong motivator, social worker, and philanthropist ( helping over 15 underprivileged girls with their marriage expenses). He left for his final abode on 01 Aug 23, due to age-related illnesses.
