All undead creatures serve Nagash, from lowly skeletal serfs to the most prideful of Vampire Lords. Nagash lays claim to all of Shyish, from the mist-shrouded barrows of Ullenghast to the parched waves of the Desert of Bones. Upon his seat of power within Nagashizzar dwells the Great Necromancer, feeding upon other gods of the afterlife and setting into motion his terrifying plans. Enacting his will, the Legions of Nagash are led by the Mortarchs. At the forefront of these legions is the Grand Host of Nagash, led by the Great Necromancer himself.[1a]
To ensure his domination over the Mortal Realms, Nagash turned to his great lieutenants, the Mortarchs. Each Mortarch is granted is sliver of Nagash's limitless power with which to command their own undead legions. The Mortarchs were chosen by Nagash not for their loyalty - but for their unique and invaluable skills. Should Nagash require a corruption of a mortal city via a Soulblight curse, he turn to Neferata, the Mortarch of Blood. Should Nagash's task depend on martial expertise and viscious, low cunning, he will turn to Mannfred von Carstein, the Mortarch of Night. To the loyal Arkhan the Black, the Mortarch of Sacrament, Nagash will task the most sensitive and secretive missions.[1e] In Lady Olynder, the Mortarch of Grief, Nagash sought a Mortarch who could instead inflict psychological losses upon an enemy.[4a] It was Lady Olynder who led the Legion of Grief against the Sigmar's armies to break the stormvault beneath the city of Lethis.[2a] These events led to the return of Orpheon Katakros, the Mortarch of the Necropolis, who leads the Ossiarch Legions.[3a]
so if (most likely when) we get Nagash. a lot of this delves into what i would prefer. Im also going to take some liberties with some units that could easily exist in Fantasy from age of sigmar as with old world many can be added retroactively to help flesh out his uniqueness.
which to be honest is what he should be. Many on the fourms just state he should have all the undead from vampire counts, vampire pirates, and tomb kings. I also dont think he should be a legendary hero. I don't just want him to be a mash up of all the undead factions, I want him to be an end game threat, like how archeon plays ( not his AI). being able to unite the undead under him. leading them as a united force against the living. In truth I would pay a champions of chaos style dlc for him. Ideally we would get several other undead lords thru this dlc, because lets be real if we get nagash were getting the end times version so no need to not include them. But ideally he should be able to confederate all undead factions.
Mortarch Hunt: This is styled after Norca hunts, but nagash is hunting for tombs to raise legendary lords/heros to join his ranks as mortarchs. as he gets mortarchs they fill an " office" like in the empire that provide a campaign wide buff. this will also serve as a way for him to get the other mortarchs, if there faction has been destroyed. so if manfred is dead, it allows a quest battle for nagash to find his corpse and resurrect it.
Book collection: add him to the nine books of nagash hunt, But each book as new effect for him that buff him specifically. some might be shards like karios allowing him to customize his spells. other will be battle field summons or battle bar magics like what most of the demon factions have.
Souls and bones: special recourse that are tied to special spells nagash can cast, similar to the steel and stone of Yoan Bo, these can be used to insta raise some elite armies, insta regen an entire army, ect.
Roster: yes nagash needs access to all the undead rosters, but he also needs his own unique forces to him, he is the lords of death so nothing is limiting to him. this can also be used to add new units to old rosters like how shadows of change added tzangors and incarnate of beasts to beastmen.
tomb kings: we have the full tomb king roster to my knowledge, with some forge world exceptions like khemric titian. they are adding more tomb kings in old world, so fingers crossed we get something good from that.
VC onlly had 1 DLC in warhammer 1 is a very ashaming situation because other races have more than 3 DLCs already, and newer DLCs were infinitely more meaty in content and mechanics except for SoC. It made me step away from undead, they feel almost abandoned and underpowered, including the case of Tomb Kings..
It's like you read my mind about Nagash. Yes, he must have something of himself from Nagashizzar, for there are still some powers from there. Even the vampire editorial said so. However, I understand that Nagash should gather ALL undead forces from all factions, which is of course correct and reasonable. But it would be even cooler if Nagash had not just a faction like the Chaos Demons, but a necromancer faction where the same necromancers could become Lich lords and heroes, even their phrase: "Soon I'll be even more powerful" clearly hints that it's time for them to rise up and it's a great reason for them to add Lich to the faction of the one who actually became the First Lich. And that's not to mention Dieter, who would be perfect for Nagash, ala Helman Gorst for Mannfred
After many centuries, the Great Necromancer Nagash had returned, and his dominion over the living dead was total and absolute. For the first time in living memory, the disparate forces of the dead were united in purpose, answering Nagash's summons and fighting together under his rule. Mummified Tomb Kings rode into battle alongside bloodthirsty Vampire Lords, while skeletal legions of a bygone age formed ranks beside corpses freshly risen from their graves. Nagash's Undead Legions were vast beyond mortal comprehension, utterly relentless and totally without mercy. The age of the living was finally drawing to an end...[1]
