On the occasion of World Tourism Day 2021, the Chief Minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma launched a new Online Ferry Ticket Booking portal to book tickets for ferry transport between Jorhat and Majuli districts of the state. Minister of Transport and Industries Chandra Mohan Patowary was also present in this event.
This Online Ferry Ticket Booking portal was created by the Assam Electronics Development Corporation Limited ( AMTRON ) and maintained by them as well. As of now this portal is only for the ferries operating between Majuli and Jorhat. But it will be extended for other Inland Water Transport routes of the state of Assam. As of now online 30% of all ticketing is now available for online booking.
Previously ferry tickets were available only at the venue. This often caused problems in planing ahead before travelling. The biggest problem arises during the Raas Festival season when the number of tourists to the island increases manifold.
Recently, the Majuli Ferry Ticket booking has gone online. Whether you are going from Jorhat To Nimati ghat or coming back from Majuli To Jorhat by ferry, the tickets can now be booked online. The official website looks a little dodgy, just like a ton of other govt. websites almost everywhere, however, it gets the job done.
The river Brahmaputra flows through the state and creates immense possibility in both transportation and agriculture. In a step to boost the river tourism sector of state, the Inland Water Transportation Department of the Government of Assam has opened up its services for online booking. First to add to the online service was the ferry service between Nimatighat and Majuli. And now the ferry services connecting Umananda to the Guwahati city has also been added.
Two way tickets for the island are available at the venue. Government ferries are available from around 9 AM to around 4 PM and ply to and fro Umananda. The Ro-Pax ferry services to resume their regular operations between Nimati ghat and Majuli from May 15 onwards. The Inland Water Transport Department has already opened online booking ticket bookings.
