Note:

  • Characters who are already in the official Smash games will share tropes with their official portrayals unless noted.
  • This character page was created circa the 0.9.3 update with much of its information added circa the 0.9.4a update, so information from prior versions will most likely be missing.

Nintendo charactersSuper Mario Bros. (and its spin-offs) Mario Debut: Donkey KongNintendo's ever-popular mascot, a red-clad plumber known for his jumping abilities.

  • Attack Reflector: The main use of his side-B, Cape, is to turn around projectiles. It can also turn opponents around, leaving them open for a follow-up attack in certain situations.
  • Badass Cape: His Side-B has him use the Cape from Super Mario World as a weapon.
  • Dance Battler: The 0.9.5 update changes his Down Smash to the breakdance flare from Dance Dance Revolution Mario Mix much like in Ultimate.
  • Fireballs: Uses his Fire Flower-granted fireballs for his neutral-B. These bounce along the ground but are a fairly standard projectile otherwise.
  • Human Hammer-Throw: His back throw has him wind up his opponent with a few spins and then throw them, much like in Super Mario 64's Bowser fights. In reference to this, using Mario's back throw on Bowser himself sometimes has him exclaim "So long, King Bowser!"
  • Kamehame Hadoken: His Mario Finale is a large blast of fire from Mario's outstretched hands. His Forward Smash is also a short-ranged variant that causes a small explosion in front of him.
  • Lightning/Fire Juxtaposition: Mario uses fire for his projectiles while his brother Luigi uses lightning.
  • Mercury's Wings: The 0.9.5 update give him the Wing Cap for his Super Jump Punch.
  • Playing with Fire: Throws fireballs for his neutral-B, and his forward Smash has him create a short-ranged explosion of fire in a Kamehame Hadoken motion.
  • Shoryuken: His Super Jump Punch is essentially a standard dragon punch without spinning.
  • Shotoclone: Has equivalents for the Hadouken, Shoryuken, and Tatsumaki in his Fireball, Super Jump Punch, and Star Spin (formerly Mario Tornado).
  • Star Power: The 0.9.5 update replaces the Mario Tornado with the Star Spin similar to Super Smash Flash 2.
  • Spin Attack: As opposed to FLUDD which has been his canon down-B since Brawl, Mario has the Luma-powered Star Spin as his down-B in this fangame (prior versions to 0.9.5 used the Mario Tornado from 64 and Melee).

Luigi Debut: Mario Bros.Mario's awkward green-clad brother, mostly serving as Mario's sidekick and occassional ghost hunter.

  • Ass Kicks You: Throws his real end out as the finisher of his jab combo.
  • Lightning/Fire Juxtaposition: Luigi uses lightning for his projectiles while his brother Mario uses fire.
  • Shock and Awe: His Fireballs are changed to lightning balls in reference to the Thunderhand from Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga.
  • Shoryuken: His Super Jump Punch. Like always, he must sweet spot the move at point blank for it to do anything, otherwise it does minimal damage and knockback while Luigi is helpless.
  • Shotoclone: By virtue of having similar specials as Mario, he functions as an alternative base Shoto for the game.
  • Spin Attack: Has his Luigi Cyclone for down-B, which can give Luigi a good burst movement and therefore approach opponents.
  • Weapons That Suck: As of the 0.9.4 update, Luigi uses his Poltergust for his grab. Not the Suction Shot he uses in Ultimate, but the actual vaccuum, complete with a windbox.

Peach Debut: Super Mario Bros. The beloved Princess of the Mushroom Kingdom, who is very close to Mario.

  • Art Evolution: The 0.9.5 update improves her sprites a bit, giving her an outline and better colors.
  • Ass Kicks You: Does this in her Peach Bomber Side-B and back-air.
  • Counter-Attack: Her neutral-B, Toadsworth, has him shoot out poisonous spores on contact with an enemy move.
  • Edible Ammunition: Can pull out a variety of vegetables from Super Mario Bros. 2 for her Down-B, which lets her throw them as any other throwable item. Each different expression has a certain damage and knockback value, with the "stitchface" being the most deadly.
  • Human Shield: Notable in that due to the usual Toad being Promoted to Playable, Peach instead uses her Old Retainer Toadsworth for her Neutral-B. It otherwise functions the same.
  • Parasol Parachute: Pulls out her signature parasol for her up-B, allowing her to float slowly downwards.

Toad Debut: Super Mario Bros.A common denizen of the Mushroom Kingdom.

  • Art Evolution: The 0.9.4 update overhauls his sprites and much of his moveset.
  • Car Fu: For his Side-B, he rides around in a kart, allowing him to run over opponents.
  • Edible Ammunition: He pulls out vegetables for his Down-B like Peach, though his is of fixed damage instead.
  • Ground Pound: Does this for his down-aerial, using the sound effect from New Super Mario Bros. Wii.
  • Hat of Flight: Dons a helmet from the Propeller Suit for his Up-B.
  • Poisonous Person: Blows out toxic spores for his neutral-B just like Peach's does, though it doesn't do Damage Over Time.
  • Powerful Pick: His forward-Smash has him wield the Super Pickax from Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker.
  • Promoted to Playable: In canonical Smash games, he only functions as an Assist Character to Peach. Crusade makes him fully playable with the best of them.
  • Spin Attack: Uses the midair Spin from the New Super Mario Bros. games for his neutral air. Like in said series, one use of it in the air gains a small aerial boost, aiding in recovery.

Petey Piranha Debut: Super Mario SunshineA mutated Piranha Plant who serves as one of Bowser's lieutenants.

  • Blow You Away: He can use his leafy arms to create tornadoes that forcibly bring the opponent closer to him.
  • Human Cannonball: His Up-B has him duck into a Pipe Cannon to be launched out shortly afterwards.
  • Man Bites Man: Many of his attacks have him biting with his large Piranha Plant mouth. His Down-B in particular has him take an opponent into his mouth, chew on them, then spit them out.
  • Promoted to Playable: Merely a boss in Brawl, and as of Ultimate, a Final Smash for Piranha Plant, Crusade makes him a full-fledged playable character.
  • Sticky Situation: His neutral-B lets him spit a blob of goop on the stage, impeding movement of opponents standing on it for a short time and dealing Damage Over Time.
  • Video Game Flight: He has five midair jumps and can even float like Peach thanks to his leaf arms.

Bowser Debut: Super Mario Bros. The mighty King of the Koopas, who seeks to conquer the Mushroom Kingdom and marry Peach.

  • Art Evolution: Gets resprited in an update to the 0.9.5 version, combining elements of his Smash 4 and Ultimate revamp, his original version in Melee and Brawl, and new moves inspired by other appearances, mostly Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story. Notably, his resprite had an Early-Bird Cameo of sorts in the CMC+ v8 build, being released there prior to being released in vanilla.
  • Breath Weapon: Can breathe a stream of fire as per canon. As of his resprite however, this is changed into singular, powerful Fireballs instead.
  • Ground Pound: His Bowser Bomb, which is a straight stall-then-fall in the air, but a leap-then-pound on the ground.
  • Lightning Bruiser: His resprite has him gain the speedy mobility of his Smash 4 and on version. Notably, since the 0.9.5 update implements momentum transferring into jumping, this gives him better aerial mobility as well.
  • Mighty Glacier: Prior to his resprite, he retained the slow mobility of his Melee and Brawl incarnations.
  • Painfully Slow Projectile: His Fire Breath in his resprite has him shoot powerful, explosive fireballs that can easily KO an opponent offstage. To balance out this aspect, the individual projectiles are very slow and therefore easy to see coming.
  • Rolling Attack: His resprite's Dash Attack has him roll forward in his Spike Ball form.
  • Spin Attack: His Whirling Fortress for his Up-B serves as his recovery move and an effective approach move. His Down-Smash (prior to his resprite), somewhat redundantly, is also a spin attack inside his shell.
  • Studded Shell: His turtle shell is spiked, and he doesn't hesitate to use it for his attacks.
  • Truer to the Text: Albeit only aesthetically. His voice clips use his Voice Grunting from the Mario games and spin-offs as opposed to the stock grunts used in canon.
  • Use Your Head: For his forward-Smash prior to his resprite, he delivers the massive headbutt from Melee and Brawl as opposed to his dropkick from 3DS/Wii U.
  • Wrestler in All of Us: Swaps out the Koopa Klaw in prior versions for his Flying Slam from Brawl onward for his resprite.

Dr. Mario Debut: Dr. MarioMario's medical alter-ego.

  • Abnormal Ammo: Substitutes Megavitamin pills for fireballs just like in the canon Smash games.
  • An Ice Person: His Super Sheet is given ice properties (the Dr. Tornado had it instead prior to the 0.9.5 update).
  • Blow You Away: As of the 0.9.5 update, his Super Sheet is given a windbox in addition to its ice properties, making for an effective edgeguard option and similar to the "Breezy Sheet" custom from Smash 4.
  • Divergent Character Evolution: In addition to some divergence brought in from Ultimate such as his new back throw and down-air, his up-B uses a custom variation of the Super Jump Punch from 3DS/Wii U with fire properties while his Dr. Tornado has electric properties. The 0.9.4 update additionally diverges his and Mario's voice clips, with many of Mario's coming from his various games while Doc retains the voice used in the canon Smash games.
  • Goomba Stomp: Has his down aerial from Ultimate, in which he stomps downward for a Meteor Move.
  • Playing with Fire: His Super Jump Punch has fire properties, but unlike Luigi's, its sweetspot is at its peak rather than at the beginning.
  • Shock and Awe: His Dr. Tornado is given electrical properties (the Super Sheet had it instead prior to the 0.9.5 update).
  • Shoryuken: Shares the Super Jump Punch with Mario and Luigi, but it is altered to work like the "Ol' One-Two" custom from Smash 4, hitting at the beginning to lead to a powerful killing explosion at the peak.
  • Shotoclone: By virtue of being a Moveset Clone of Mario.
  • Spin Attack: Dr. Tornado, which is changed to have ice properties.
