2. Managing Australia-Russia Relations at the & Post G20 Summit. Lecture, RMIT, 10 November.
The EU Centre at RMIT in conjunction with the Strategic Flashlight forum on National Security and Strategy presents:
‘Shirt-Fronting’ the Bear: Managing Australia-Russia Relations at the & Post G20 Summit
The upcoming G20 Summit in Brisbane is likely to be the test for both Canberra and Moscow. One of the most anticipated and controversial developments at the forthcoming Leaders Summit would be possible discussions between Prime Minister Tony Abbott and Russia’s President Vladimir Putin.
This special briefing will consider the current state of Australia-Russia relations, dilemmas surrounding Russia-West relations in the context of Ukraine crisis, managing the threat of globalised terrorism, the Ebola virus outbreak, Afghanistan dilemma and other. By comparing Australia-Russia and EU-Russia relations it will attempt to identify future trends that may shape up Russia-West relations post-2014.

4. Russian Orthodox Teen Retreat
With the blessing of His Eminence Metropolitan Hilarion we are proud to announce, that the next Teen Retreat will be in Melbourne! MOYG (Melbourne Orthodox Youth Group) are organising it for the first time and are expecting it be amazing. Teen Retreat is an annual event held in Australia for Russian Orthodox teens. It offers the opportunity to socialise with peers from the same religious background, as well as, and most importantly, to gain a deeper understanding of the Orthodox faith.

7. Maslenitsa 2015 – Save the date!
Preparations for Maslenitsa – Slavic Pancake Festival in 2015 are now fully underway. The event will be celebrated on Saturday 7 February 2015 at the Royal Exhibition Building, 9 Nicholson St Carlton. This time we are being supported by a greater number of Slavic communities than ever before, including the Russian, Serbian, Macedonian, Czech and Slovak communities. The event will be unlike anything Melbourne has seen before.
Come and experience the best of Russian and Slavic cultures that Melbourne has to offer. There will be dance and performance groups, food stalls, activities for the whole family, a beer garden, a cultural exhibition, and much more. 11. Red Cross request
Red Cross have written to RERC to ask for our assistance in locating a person for whom an enquiry has been received by their office. The aim of the Red Cross Tracing Service is to trace missing persons on behalf of relatives overseas.
They are currently searching for the following person from the Russian community-
CASE NAME: Nadja MOROZOW/WDOWKINA CASE NO: 128579
Their efforts in locating this person have so far proved unsuccessful. If the missing person is known, their office can be contacted on 8327 7700. It is important that the case number is quoted in any communication.

14. Открытое письмо Межконфессионального совета при полиции штата Виктория (Victoria Police Multi-Faith Council)
Мы привержены идее плодотворного взаимодействия со всеми религиозными общинами
Мы, члены Межконфессионального совета при полиции штата Виктория, в этом обращении к общественности штата Виктория заявляем о своем неприятии насилия, в особенности насилия, основанного на религиозной розни.
Ужасные сцены, появившиеся в интернете и на экранах наших телевизоров в последние несколько месяцев, вызывают отвращение у всех трезвомыслящих граждан штата Виктория. Эти события заставили многих из нас переосмыслить то, как мы живем и взаимодействуем внутри нашего гармоничного многоконфессионального и мультикультурного сообщества граждан.
Нам необходимо защитить то, что нам удалось создать в ходе наших взаимоотношений. Совместными усилиями мы можем обеспечить безопасность друг друга.
Наш премьер-министр предупредил о повышении уровня готовности для населения с “умеренного” до “высокого”. Мы считаем, что в этих условиях мы можем противостоять потенциальным угрозам только на основе единства и сотрудничества. Этот подход никогда не подводил граждан штата Виктория на протяжении десятилетий.
Мы должны помнить о том, что помогло нам добиться процветания нашего штата. Мы должны помнить о нашем стремлении поддерживать законность и порядок, о многолетнем сотрудничестве и взаимодействии друг с другом и о всемерной поддержке людей, нуждающихся в нашей помощи, вне зависимости от их религиозной и расовой принадлежности.
В этот трудный момент нам необходимо тонко чувствовать культурные особенности друг друга, уважать и понимать друг друга. Признавая различия, мы одновременно приветствуем и ценим то, в чем проявляется наше сходство.
Все мы имеем право исповедовать нашу веру и соблюдать наши религиозные обряды. Сила нашего мультикультурализма и конфессионального многообразия заложила прочную основу для противодействия вызовам времени в духе позитивного и мирного взаимодействия.
Забота о безопасности населения штата Виктория является задачей каждого из нас, и мы призываем все религиозные общины действовать совместно с нами в деле обеспечения безопасности в штате Виктория.
На местном уровне мы просим лидеров наших религиозных групп призывать членов своих общин помнить о том, что:
• изменения, предпринятые для обеспечения безопасности граждан, связаны с преступной деятельностью у нас в стране и за рубежом;
• о действиях, внушающих подозрения, следует сообщать на Общенациональную телефонную линию по вопросам безопасности (National Security Hotline), позвонив по номеру 1800 123 400 или Triple Zero (000);
• обо всех проявлениях религиозной или расовой нетерпимости следует немедленно сообщать, позвонив по номеру Triple Zero (000); и
• взаимодействие с местной полицией позволит повысить уровень безопасности и укрепить общественные связи.
Лидеры религиозных общин также могут играть важную роль в этом процессе, призывая граждан отстаивать свои ценности и убеждения и в то же время реагировать и сообщать о случаях дискриминации и других противозаконных действиях.
Полиция штата Виктория взяла на себя обязательство объективно и беспристрастно реагировать на все жалобы, основываясь на принципах защиты прав человека.
Межконфессиональный совет всемерно поддерживает мнение Полиции штата Виктория о том, что существующие в нашем штате сплоченность и согласие являются важнейшим достоянием, позволяющим нам обеспечивать безопасность друг друга и продолжать пользоваться всеми преимуществами, которые предоставляет в наше распоряжение одно из самых успешных мультикультурных и многоконфессиональных сообществ в мире.
Межконфессиональный совет при полиции штата Виктория является авторитетным объединением лидеров религиозных общин, консультирующим Главного комиссара полиции (Chief Commissioner).
В связи с повышением общенационального уровня террористической опасности до “высокого” члены Межконфессионального совета встретились с Главным комиссаром полиции и взяли на себя обязательство призывать всех членов общества к совместным действиям в интересах общественной безопасности.

15. Victorian Multicultural Commission’s (VMC) Community Grants Program 2015-16 Major Round is now open.
The Major Round offers financial assistance to culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) not-for-profit organisations in five different grant categories: Multifaith Initiatives and Interfaith Networks; Community Languages Schools Program; Building and Facilities Improvement; Organisational Support; and Strengthening Multicultural Communities.
The VMC Chairperson, Mr Chin Tan, said that these grants aim to support the needs of multicultural communities and promote Victoria’s multicultural and multifaith society.
“Victorians come from over 200 countries, speak more than 260 languages and follow more than 130 faiths – the Community Grants Program is a way to promote this fantastic diversity that is a proud part of the Victorian way of life,” said Mr Tan.
The Community Grants Program Major Round provides vital support for CALD not-for-profit groups to carry out their work in multicultural communities.
“Grants range from $500 to $20,000 and help to reduce the financial pressure on community groups, allowing important projects to come to fruition.
“In 2013-14, over 2,000 groups were provided $5.6 million in financial assistance, illustrating the dynamic range of multicultural organisations and activities taking place in the community,” said Mr Tan.
Former VMC grant recipient, the Iranian Women’s Choir, was established by Iranian refugee Rosa Vasseghi to offer a communal activity for Iranian women in Melbourne.
Coming from a country where singing is restricted, the choir is a unique and bonding experience for Iranian women who can feel isolated in their new home.
“I have seen them grow in confidence, become happier and become more independent. Some of the women have now gotten jobs and some have gone on to study.
“Community grants funding is very important for us and without it we would not be able to run the program. I would encourage other people to apply,” said Ms Vasseghi.
“The hard work undertaken by volunteers in the community is pivotal in maintaining harmony in Victoria’s multicultural community. The Community Grants Program helps these hardworking community members continue their important work and adds to the vibrancy of our great State,” said Mr Tan.

16. ИЗМЕНЕНИЯ В МЕТОДЕ ОЦЕНКИ ПЕРСОНАЛЬНЫХ ПЕНСИЙ ОРГАНАМИ СОЦ. ОБЕСПЕЧЕНИЯ С 1 ЯНВАРЯ 2015
Департамент социального обеспечения готовится к изменению в методе оценки персональных пенсий (superannuation pensions), прошедшим поддержку обеих палат парламента в марте этого года.
Основным нововведением является изменение метода оценки персональных пенсий (account-based pensions), которые будут открыты после 1 января 2015. Существующих пенсий данные изменения не коснутся, за исключением обстоятельств где выгодоприобретатель пенсии переведет пенсию к новому поставщику услуг или где возрастная государственная пенсия или пособие будут временно прекращены по той или иной причине, что повлечет изменение в методе оценки уже существующей персональной пенсии.
Кого коснутся данные изменения в общем:
В общем данные изменения коснутся лиц, получающих государственную пенсию по возрасту/инвалидности или пособия Newstart и чей уровень пенсии определяется на основе совокупного дохода (income test) и имеющих личные сбережения в пенсионной системе (superannuation), а также лиц, планирующих обращение на возрастную пенсию или пособие Newstart после 1 января 2015г.
Изменения непосредственно повлекут снижение возрастной пенсии у следующих категорий граждан:
1. Лиц старше 65 лет и получающих пенсию по возрасту и имеющих сбережения в пенсионной системе (superannuation in accumulation phase), влияющие на снижение пенсии на основе оценки дохода (income test) или оценки активов (asset test) но где оценка активов (asset test) станет доминирующим методом оценки в будущем.
2. Лиц до 65 лет и получающих пенсию по инвалидности и имеющих сбережения в пенсионной системе (superannuation in accumulation phase) и/или финансовые сбережения (банковкие счета, акции, облигации, паевые фонды и т.д.), влияющие на снижение пенсии на основе оценки дохода (income test) или оценки активов (asset test) но где оценка активов (asset test) станет доминирующим методом оценки в будущем.
3. Лиц, занятых трудовой деятельностью и получающих пенсию по возрасту или пособие Newstart, где их личный доход или доход супруга(и) и сбережения в пенсионной системе (superannuation in accumulation phase) и/или финансовые сбережения в совокупности влияют на снижение пенсии на основе оценки дохода (income test) или оценки активов (asset test) но где оценка активов (asset test) станет доминирующим методом оценки в будущем.
4.
