3. Russian Seniors Getting Connected
The Dandenong Russian Seniors have been meeting for over 30 years.
Many members don't speak English so we communicate mainly in Russian.
However, in recent years new members have joined that speak English
and so our club has started to communicate with other seniors clubs.
This helps us to learn and share ideas and celebrate special events
with other older people.
We had several events this year: A pancake event in March was attended
by 350 people. We invited all the seniors' clubs from Dandenong
Multicultural Prime Timers and also Russian Seniors from Yarraville,
Ormond, Frankston and Box Hill. It was advertised by radio 3ZZZ and it
was shown on Channel 31 the following week.
In June we had a Shashlik with lots of tasty food. Again we invited
many multicultural clubs. The atmosphere was joyous and everyone had
lots of fun. At both events our Russian choir sang and the Chinese
seniors danced for us. Even the Mayor of Dandenong, Cr Roz Blades
joined in.
Most recently, we celebrated Melbourne Cup day in partnership with the
Keysborough Senior Citizens Club. It was a fantastic day topped off
with a hat parade and competition in which one of our members came
second. Being part of the club is an important way for our seniors to
feel a part of the community. For more information and to join the

4. Russian Ethnic Representative Council AGM
The RERC Annual General Meeting was held on Sunday 11th December 2010
at 1:00pm in Russian House, 118 Greeves Street, Fitzroy. Reports were
read about what the organisation has done for the past year and its
plans for the next twelve months and beyond. A general invitation was
given to the whole community to get involved! More detailed
information will be available on our web-site shortly.

The Russian Senior Citizens Club of PRAHRAN is looking for new

11. Your chance to comment and provide feedback to the Australian
Charities and Not-for-Profits Commission
On 10 May 2011, a range of measures reforming the not for profit (NFP)
sector in Australia were announced in the 2011-12 Budget of the
Australian Government, including the creation of the Australian
Charities and Not-for-Profits Commission (ACNC) which reports to
Parliament through the Treasurer.
The ACNC has released a discussion paper seeking feedback on the
functions and operations of the ACNC. The paper discusses the design
and implementation of the new reporting framework for charities that
will be administered by the ACNC and is a central platform for the
Government's vision of 'report once-use often' reporting for the NFP
sector. The paper also seeks comments on the ACNC's public
information portal, and the ACNC's educative role. The paper and how
to lodge your comments can be viewed via this link.
To complement the release of the ACNC Discussion Paper, a series of
face to face consultation in all Australian capital cities will take
place commencing 30 January 2012. The ACNC is committed to close
consultation with the NFP sector and Australian public. The full

student at the University of Melbourne looking for Melbourne-based
people who speak Russian and English, including a mix of the two, to
give me a few recorded samples of natural language use and be

14. HACC PAG group in Prahran.
RERC is organising a Planned Activity Group for the frail elderly in
Prahran and surrounding suburbs. This group will meet on Tuesdays.
Gentle exercise, balance and strength training, games and guest
speakers will be just some of the fun activities. This group is
targeted to those who can no longer participate in Pensioner Clubs and
long excursions. Transport and meals will be provided. There will be a

If you are elderly and feel isolated, our fun weekly telephone hook-up
(conference call) may be exactly what you need to brighten up your
day. This is especially targeted to those that are in rural and
regional Victoria. We have a few spots available at 10 am and 11 am on
Mondays. No special equipment is required and there is NO cost to

журналом Australian Bookseller and Publisher как одна из 20 лучших
документальных (non-fiction) книг 2002 года. Впервые книга, написанная
русским человеком в Австралии, была удостоена столь высокой чести в

Наконец книга была переведена на родной язык и издана в России

Сага Тарасовых. Выпуск книги состоялся в Санкт-Петербурге в
Российской Национальной Библиотеке в Феврале 2011 г.
КРАТКИЙ ОБЗОР КНИГИ
Глава семьи, полковник Белой армии Тарасов, его жена Аида и пятеро
детей пережили все ужасы революции и последующей гражданской войны. В
книге описываются поиски Аидой своего мужа, затерявшегося на
необъятных просторах Сибири, и далее о разлуке с детьми во время
грозных событий и невероятных испытаний, после которых вся семья,
наконец, спасается бегством в Китай в 1922 году.
Новая жизнь начинается в далеком и шумном Харбине но и она нарушается
приходом японской военщины в 1931 году. Последовали суровые годы
мировой войны, появление 'красных' китайцев в 1949 году и затем
массовый исход русских из Китая в лагерь для перемещенных лиц на
отдаленном филиппинском острове Тубабао. Путь семьи кончается в
Австралии, куда они, в конце концов, добираются.
В книге ярко и живо описывается жизнь в 'русском' Харбине и в
иностранных концессиях Тяньцзина и Шанхая. В книге также
рассказывается о том как сложилась жизнь в Австралии в эпоху появления
'новых австралийцев'.
Книга содержит 296 страниц, с включенными в текст 200 фотографиями

19. Fr Job Gumerov is visiting Melbourne from Moscow
Come hear a spiritual talk in RUSSIAN this Sunday 15th January at 1pm.
Location: Russian Orthodox Cathedral in Brunswick, 1-3 Albion Street.
FREE entry.
Fr Job Gumerov, author of many spiritual books including "1000
questions to a priest" is a hieromonk from Stretensky Monastery who
has been invited to Australia in order to give a series of talks in
Russian.
Hieromonk Job (Gumerov) was born in 1942. In 1966, he graduated from
the philosophy department of Moscow State University, and then
received the degree of aspirantura. He defended his candidate's
dissertation in the Institute of Philosophy on the theme "A Systematic
Analysis of the Changes in Social Organization"; then for fifteen
years he worked as a senior research fellow at the All-Union
Scientific Research Institute for System Studies, Academy of Sciences.
He graduated from the Moscow Theological Seminary, and then the
Theological Academy. He defended his thesis for the degree of
Candidate in Theology. He taught Foundational Theology at the Moscow
Theological Seminary and Old Testament at the Theological Academy. He
is in charge of the "Questions to a Priest" website (http://
www.pravoslavie.ru/answers/ )
In 1990, he was ordained a deacon, and was ordained to the priesthood
in the same year. He has served at the St. Vladimir Church in Starykh
Sadekh, the St. Nicholas the Wonderworker Church in Khamovniki, and
Ivanovo Monastery [all in Moscow]. Since 2003, he has lived at the
Sretensky Monastery [in Central Moscow]. In April 2005, he was
tonsured to monasticism with the name Job [his Baptismal name had been
Athanasius].
