2. Seniors Festival Concert
Celebratory Concert and Russian Cultural Interaction presented by “Lotus” Singing and Musical Ensemble
Friday 17 October from 10am to 12noon

The “Lotus” Singing Ensemble is a mixed voice choir made up of seven singers and three musicians.
Folk songs will be sung in different languages: Polish, English, Russian, Yiddish, Italian, Ukrainian and more. The singers will be accompanied by musicians on the accordion, violin, domra, balalaika and piano.
The music will be heart-warming, nostalgic, with old and new songs, bringing tears to the eyes of the audience.

6. An Iconic Exhibition
Gleaming golden images and the beauty and mystery of an Orthodox church feature in the Art Gallery of Ballarat's next major project.
Called EIKON, the show features works from 14th to 18th century Greece and Russia, as well as other orthodox countries. The exhibition considers how the role of icons within the religious practice of the Orthodox churches changed over time, how they have been displayed in churches and their importance to the cultures of countries that embrace the faith.
Viewing the exhibition will be a special event, with dramatic lighting and a soundscape incorporating traditional chanting, bells and other sounds of an Orthodox church service recreating the original setting of the works.
Concerts of Greek and Russian inspired music, a Greek feast, talks and a dance are a few of the special events at the exhibition.
A selection of the spectacular images from the show will feature in merchandise including Christmas cards, and a 2015 calendar.
Icons are an integral part of worship in the Christian churches of Eastern Europe and the Middle East. While they are not actually worshipped, icons were and are believed to 'stand in' for the holy figures they depicted and as such have always been treated with great reverence. They have been a source of solace and inspiration and a pathway to the spiritual world for those inside the Eastern Christian traditions.
While they are often extraordinarily beautiful, their true significance lies in the fact that they are intended to be a lens of the most intense public and private devotion. They are truly 'windows on heaven'

8. Invitation Commemoration of the Departure of the WWI First Convoy 1914
Come to Princes Pier, Port Melbourne, on Sunday 19 October for a commemoration of the departure of Victorian troops, nurses and many others for overseas service in World War One.
The program will commence at Princes Pier at 4pm with entertainment, opportunities to research your ANZAC connections and poppy making workshops. The program will end with a special sunset ceremony.
Information on Princes Pier, assembly points, public transport and key dates for the embarkation and departure of ships in the First Convoy follows.
Princes Pier
Princes Pier represents an important part of Victoria’s heritage – particularly our wartime and immigration histories. It was a departure point for Australian troops during the first and second World Wars and the first place of contact for thousands of post-War migrants.
The Pier was significantly refurbished (completed in 2011) with the first 196 metres of the Pier fully restored. Beyond that point, the decking was removed, with the original pylons being preserved – a forest of piles at the seaward end of the pier as a heritage and sculptural centerpiece. The gatehouse has also been refurbished.
Princes Pier is included in the Victorian Heritage Register as a site of historical and architectural significance to Victoria.
At Port Melbourne, Station Pier is the successor to the original Railway Pier, which was built to give shipping access to the first railway in Australia in 1854. Station Pier was built in 1924-30. It has always been of great importance for passenger ships and was the regular berth of large overseas liners. It became notable as the first point of disembarkation for a great number of postwar European immigrants to Australia. Princes Pier was completed in 1916 and named for the Prince of Wales on the occasion of his royal visit in 1920. Town Pier, at the end of Bay Street, no longer exists, but it included coal-unloading facilities with rail access to the South Melbourne gasworks. Kerferd Road Pier was built in 1887 to cater for the popularity of seaside recreation. The first St Kilda Pier was built in 1853 and replaced by a stronger structure in 1857. It was an important landing place for excursion vessels, and it was here that visiting royalty and other dignitaries would be formally welcomed when they came by ship.
Assembly points: Those wishing to walk in with performers and community to Princes Pier should assemble at 5.45pm at the Women’s Welcome Home Rotunda, cnr Beach Street and Stokes Street. Alternatively, assemble near Princes Pier.
Parking in surrounding areas is very limited. Catch the No 109 Lightrail tram from Box Hill to Port Melbourne via Collins Street, City. On Google maps, visit Station Pier (off Waterfront Place, Port Melbourne) and Princes Pier (off Pier Street, Port Melbourne). It may be windy at the Pier.

5.45pm March from the Rotunda to the Pier and formal recognition of the First Convoy.

Этот воскресный вечер нам хотелось бы провести под знаком любви, поэтому главной сюжетной линией нашей программы станет удивительная по своей красоте литературно-музыкальная композиция "Грезы и муки любви", посвященная одной из самых романтичных и лиричных историй отношений - любви гениального Шопена и не менее гениальной Жорж Санд.
Нам показалось символичным связать официальную презентацию недавно организованного благотворительного фонда "Маленькое облачко" с феноменально трогательной историей любви. Ведь инициатива создания фонда и вся его деятельность лежит в этой же плостости – мы, волонтеры «Маленького облачка», хотим подарить любовь и заботу тем детям, которые по разным причинам ее лишены.
Первым адресатом помощи нашего фонда была выбрана Краевая Детская Больница # 2 г.Владивостока, где сегодня содержатся 65 отказничков в возрасте до 4-х лет. И половина собранных средст от продажи билетов пойдет на ремонт палат в социальном отделении этой больницы, где и живут малыши.
В рамках нашего благотворительного ужина будут подведены итоги конкурса детского рисунка. Больше месяца дети из разных городов Австралии присылали нам свои работы, где изображали свое видение нашей организации. Также будет розыграна лотерея, и целых 5 счастливчиков смогут уйти домой с ценными призами. А еще вас ждет хорошая музыка, приятная компания и душевная атмосфера. Приходите! Мы будем вам очень рады!

14. WAR and PEACE – A Sacred Concert

Sacred musical glories.
Focusing on the musical glories of the Russian Orthodox Church, the Consort presents a selection of Russian sacred music in the sublime acoustic of the Russian Orthodox Cathedral of the Protection of the Most Holy Mother of God in East Brunswick.
Whilst Russia was at war with France in the early 19th century, sacred music flourished in the Imperial Court of Saint Petersburg. The program features music by ‘The Golden Three’; the Imperial Court composers Maxim Berezovsky, Artemy Vedel and Dimitri Bortniansky, alongside other sacred works by Mussorgsky, Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninov and Prokofiev.
At its heart will be a performance of Bortniansky’s grand Te Deum for double chorus written to commemorate the Russian victory over Napoleon in 1812.
In 2014, The Consort of Melbourne presents a series of concerts that draws on the great repertoire for voices inspired by, or reflecting on the passion of human conflict and its triumphs and tragedies.

19. Maslenitsa 2015 – Save the date!
Preparations for Maslenitsa – Slavic Pancake Festival in 2015 are now fully underway. The event will be celebrated on Saturday 7 February 2015 at the Royal Exhibition Building, 9 Nicholson St Carlton. ИЛИ никуда не ходите и рискуйте быть привлечены к уголовной ответственности в виде штрафа до 200 тыс. руб. или годовой зарплаты либо обязательных работ до 400 часов (согласно закону о внесении изменений в статьи 6 и 30 Федерального Закона от 31 Мая 2002 года 62-ФЗ "О гражданстве Российской Федерации"http://www.fmsmoscow.ru/docs/nationality/2nationality2014.html)

ЧТО: обязаны подать письменное уведомление в миграционный орган (территориальный орган ФМС России по месту жительства/пребывания/фактического нахождения) о наличии документа на право постоянного проживания в Австралии.
ПОЧЕМУ: Уголовная ответственность
- в виде штрафа до 200 тыс. руб. или годовой зарплаты либо обязательных работ до 400 часов
- при выявлении неисполнения обязанности о подаче уведомления.
КОГДА:
- теоритически ДО 2 ОКТЯБРЯ 2014 или в течение 60 дней со дня приобретения права постоянного проживания в Австралии.
- практически: по пребыванию (после пересечения границы) на территорию РФ, так как тогда появляется возможность уведомить.
КАК:
1) Уведомление подаётся лично. При исключительных обстоятельствах подтвержденных документально, заявление и необходимые документы могут быть переданы для рассмотрения через другое лицо либо направлены по почте. В этом случае подлинность подписи лица, подписавшего заявление, и соответствие копии документа, прилагаемого к заявлению, его подлиннику удостоверяются нотариальными записями.
2) Форму Уведомления можно найти на сайте УФМС России (http://www.fms.gov.ru/russian_national/inoe_grazhdanstvo/).
Уведомление заполняется на русском языке. При необходимости для заполнения отдельных граф уведомления могут быть использованы буквы латинского алфавита. В уведомлении должны быть заполнены все поля.
3) К уведомлению прилагается копия Австралийского паспорта или иного документа на право постоянного проживания в Австралии, а также копия паспорта РФ или иного документа, удостоверяющего личность на территории РФ.
Нарушение порядка подачи уведомления грозит административной ответственностью в виде штрафа от 500 до 1 тыс. руб.

CALL OUT FOR EXPRESSIONS OF INTEREST FROM MORELAND CULTURAL GROUPS
Brunswick Music Festival (BMF) is on again next year from the 1st – 15th of March 2015.
BMF wants to directly invite the diverse cultural groups of Moreland to participate in the Sydney Road Street Party (SRSP) taking place on Sunday 1st of March 2015 from 12-7pm.
Expressions of interest are being collected online and are closing soon so if you want to participate please read on.
WHAT IS THE SRSP?
Once a year, Sydney Road bursts to life with the Sydney Road Street Party: a fiesta celebrating the rich diversity of the Moreland area.
The SRSP is a melting pot showcase of what is happening in the Moreland community and it is an opportunity to shine a light of some of the hidden gems and talent within our creative, cultural and ethnic groups.
WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

25. Important information for the community re Centrelink changes which will affect people that are partly or fully depend on the government support.
Department of Human Services (Centrelink) is preparing to implement the Social Security Amendment Bill legislated earlier this year from 1 January 2015.
Amongst other measure the Bill changes the means-testing rules of account-based pensions. Department has begun sending out letters to existing pension holders informing them of the change, however this amendment will have a negative affect on a broader category of existing and future recipients of age pension, disability support pension, Newstart allowance or other income support payments received through Centrelink, often resulting in a reduction of social security entitlement.
Will this change affect me?
Generally, the change will affect those Age/Disability Support Pension, Newstart allowance or other income support payment recipients whose payments are or will in the future be reduced due to Centrelink means-testing Income Test. This includes existing pensioners and those who will be applying for social security benefits in the future.
What can I do to mitigate the effect of these changes?
If your personal circumstances fall into one of the following categories, you can prepare for the changes before January 15:
1. You are over age 65 and have funds in superannuation in accumulation phase.
2. You are over age 65 and work part-time. Your age pension is income-tested and you have superannuation in accumulation phase and/or other financial investments which result in the reduction of your pension. Financial investments include shares, managed funds, term deposits and bank accounts, bonds, debentures, loans to other parties.
3. You are under age 65 and are on Disability Support Pension (DSP). Your DSP pension is income-tested and you have superannuation in accumulation phase and/or other financial investments which result in the reduction of your pension.
4. You are a couple where one person is on age pension/DSP and another works full-time or part time. Your age or DSP pension is income-tested because of your spouse' earnings and you have superannuation in accumulation phase and/or other financial investments which in combination result in the reduction of your pension.
5. You or your spouse are turning 65 before 1 January 2015 and you have superannuation in accumulation phase and/or other financial investments.
6. Any combination of the above circumstances where NO pension is granted due to asset-test and your assets slightly increase the upper Centrelink threshold ($1,145,500 for homeowner couple and $771,750 for a homeowner single person).
Get the right advice before January 15.

27. "The Victoria Police Multi-Faith Council, Multicultural and Aboriginal Portfolio Reference Groups have met with the Chief Commissioner to discuss events that have taken place recently and remain united in leading their communities."
Alexander Abramoff, RERC staff member, has been a member of the Victorian Police Multi-Faith Council for many years. This is a body that proactively advising the police of the best way to deal with community issues, work with the diverse multicultural and multi-faith people that make up our generally harmonious State. The Council met a number of times in the last month to discuss the raising of Australia’s Terrorist Threat level, various arrests and incidents involving the Muslim, Russian, Australian and Ukrainian communities.
The attached media release encourages all community leaders to promote community harmony, social cohesion and unity during this complex and challenging time. We remain committed to working together to ensure the safety and security of the Victorian community and in promoting peace, inclusion and harmony.

The Victoria State election will be held on Saturday 29 November 2014. All Australian citizens over the age of 18 should enrol and vote.
For a Victorian State election you vote for people in 2 parts of the Victorian State Parliament. You will vote on 2 different ballot papers.
The 2 parts of the Victoria State Parliament are:
Legislative Assembly. It is also called the Lower House.
Legislative Council. It is also called the Upper House.
