This is a competition being run by the Bank of Melbourne and Herald-Sun.

Our budget for next year’s Slavic Pancake Festival ( www.maslenitsa.com.au ) is much smaller than it was this year because the government grant is less. If we win this competition, then we have a chance of receiving $10,000. This will allow RERC to organise a Festival that Melbourne and the Russian community deserve. And it is all about getting enough votes.

On the Facebook page ( https://www.facebook.com/BankofMelbourne?fref=ts ), you first have to ‘Like’ Bank of Melbourne, then go to “The Local Project” (green ‘light-bulb’) tab. You also have to register, which will give you, personally, the chance of winning $500. Once you have registered, go to the Culture tab and vote for Maslenitsa Slavic Pancake festival. В этом году  исполнилось  140 лет со дня рождения Сергея Рахманинова. Душа Рахманинова принадлежит России, а его музыка всему миру.

Традицию играть 3-й концерт Рахманинова на конкурсе Чайковского заложил в
58-м юный американец Ван Клиберн.
И сейчас в мире нет ни одного пианиста, дирижера или вокалиста, у кого в
репертуаре не было бы сочинений Рахманинова.
Музыка и муза не случайно имеют один корень. "Я пишу стихи когда в сердце
звучит музыка" - писала Марина Цветаева.
"Вдохновенным поэтом звуков" называли Рахманинова все кто слышал его
произведения и кому знакомо было его исполнительское мастерство.

Концерт посвящен великому композитору, вы услышите произведения
Рахманинова и других композиторов, в программе второго отделения -
классический балет и исторические танцы.

Наши компьютерные классы продолжаются. У нас есть 10 отличных пособий по обучению компьютерной грамоте, оборудованный класс и компьютеры. Если вы хотите заниматься по понедельникам, позвоните в наш офис и мы организуем вам помощь волонтера.

Our series of computer classes will now be continuing. We still also have ten fantastic (easy to follow) Russian textbooks, that you can follow yourselves at your own pace. And the computer room is open on Mondays for anybody to come in and use the computers and internet. But please let us know if you want to attend, so that we may arrange for a volunteer tutor to be present, and answer any questions you may have. We can confirm that Maslenitsa 2014 will definitely go ahead. The Victorian government has seen our efforts and good success, judged that the public are interested in such a Festival and therefore has once again provided seed funding to help with the organization of such a massive event. Start thinking about how to make next year’s Pancake Festival bigger and better. Of course, it is never too early to put your hand up and become a donor or sponsor, as well.

Rousichi Folk Dance Ensemble under the direction of artistic director Alex Ilyin and choreographer Lilia Dutova is announcing:
The invitation for boys and girls to join the character dance studio "Unicorns".
"Unicorns" character dance studio prepares artists to perform in the ensemble of folk dance. It is a principle source of skilled dancers for "Rousichi". Our dance studio trains dancers who master different types of dance at the highest level and practices diverse character dancing throughout different nationalities including Greek, Spanish, Mexican, Baltic, Belorussian, Ukrainian, Moldavian, Jewish, Russian, Middle Eastern and Middle Asian.
The program of study includes rhythmics, choreographic gymnastics, classical dance, folk dance, duet and dramatic skills.

Young "Unicorns" - Boys and girls 5-8 years old
Mondays and Wednesdays 4:15pm - 5:30pm at Russian House, 118 Greeves St, Fitzroy
Fridays 4:00 - 5:30 pm at Toorak College dance studio, Old Mornington Rd, Mt. Eliza

The Russian Ethnic Representative Council is looking for a Wordpress Content Manager

Position Description:

Person with competency in Wordpress to update organisational website with content provided by RERC staff. The person must have a good eye for web aesthetics and take initiative in requesting for photos, pics and/or more text. The competent use of web wysiwyg editors and self-initiated formatting are a must. A good sense of content priority and establishing time-critical publishing deadlines are critical to this content management position. Liaison with graphical designers and developers will occur when design updates are decided upon.

Time commitment: Approximately one day per week; some work will be able to be done from home.

Location: Russian Council, Fitzroy Offices.

Please join us for the Victorian Multicultural Commission (VMC) statewide community consultations on multicultural affairs, being held throughout October and November 2013.

Everyone is welcome to attend the consultations and have a say about how the Victorian Government can improve its services for people of all backgrounds and faiths, and provide feedback on how to better promote the VMC’s aims and objectives.

The consultations are also an opportunity for the VMC to share information on key developments in multicultural affairs as outlined in the Victorian Government Initiatives and Reporting in Multicultural Affairs 2011-2012 (PDF 1.14 mb)

The consultations will take place from 7 October to 21 November 2013 and will include a VMC Community Grants Program information session and workshop. 13.   Melbourne Syezd 2013 – Orthodox Youth Conference

With the blessing of His Eminence Metropolitan Hilarion, the forty-ninth annual Orthodox Conference (“Syezd”) will be held at Camp Manyung, Mt Eliza, just south of Melbourne. Beginning on Thursday, 19th December, the Syezd will be held over five days and four nights ending on Tuesday, 24th December, 2013.

What is Syezd?

Syezd is an annual event where Orthodox and non-Orthodox people get together from all over Australia & overseas to catch up with old friends, make new friends, enjoying the break from the daily grind of work, school and other pressures. Most importantly, Syezd gives people the chance to connect with each other as they learn more about the Orthodox faith and discover how to live a more fulfilling and meaningful life in a world increasingly beset by falling moral standards & life values. Set at the end of every year, Syezd allows people to start the new year feeling reignited with life passion, physically refreshed and spiritually re-connected again.

Every year the theme of Syezd changes, with the talks and discussions during Syezd reflecting the main theme of the current Syezd - with the focus placed on the most important issues being faced by people in our community. This gives attendees a chance to delve more into a particular theme, inciting more discussions and thought provoking questions for exploring in a friendly, positive and supportive environment. The general idea is for attendees to be able to return to “the outside world” armed with renewed vigour and strengthened in mind and spirit, to better cope with and meet whatever challenges the world may demand from them.

Melbourne Syezd 2013

Melbourne is delighted to host Syezd 2013, especially as there seems to be somewhat of a resurrection of interest and yearning for guidance in living an Orthodox lifestyle!

In response to people’s renewed interest, Syezd 2013 will focus on workshop-style discussions relating to more controversial topics where attendees will have a chance to explore the choices that are available to them in uplifting their own lifestyles, worldview, and shedding light on their future direction. In the fast-paced and scrambled world we live in today, Orthodox Christians, more than ever, are seeking ways to rise above declining moral and living standards, and are reaching for support in their endeavours to create a brighter future for themselves and their loved ones.

From feedback gathered by people in our parish communities, the topics of greatest interest include: Science and Nature, Morals and Conscience, Family and Values, and Atheism and Apathy. Clergy from around Australia, New Zealand and abroad will be joining the discussions, providing guidance and support, and sharing ways of overcoming trials and tribulations. Delegates will have the chance to socialise with the clergy and to see them as friends and mentors. Most of all, delegates will feel reassured that we are all in this together, and can reach out to each other for comfort, encouragement and support.

14.   "TSAR - 400th Anniversary of the Romanov Dynasty" 14 Sept 2013

15.   Fund-Raising Lunch for the Presentation Sisterhood.

Annual fundraising lunch to benefit the construction fund at the Presentation Sisterhood. $25 entry for an elegant buffet lunch with beer and wine. A crèche will be established in an upstairs classroom. An auction and raffle will generate the profits that will go into the construction fund.
