An official Victorian Seniors Festival Event
Royal Melbourne Philharmonic proudly presents a magnificent Russian Spectacular, including a concert performance of Sergei Prokofiev’s magnificent cantata “Alexander Nevsky”, featuring the combined power of almost 100 orchestral musicians, along with singers from Royal Melbourne Philharmonic Choir and the Melbourne University Choral Society. With more than 300 musicians on stage, the performance will be directed by award-winning conductor Andrew Wailes, and will feature internationally acclaimed contralto Liane Keegan (former Principal with Deutsche Oper, Berlin). According to the conductor, this concert will provide a spectacular opportunity for the audience to hear an entire concert of some of the greatest examples of Russian music of the late nineteenths and early twentieth centuries. “There is something very powerful about Russian symphonic music which is always best heard on a grand scale in a large space like Melbourne Town Hall” says Wailes, who has himself spent time in Moscow and St Petersburg observing rehearsals at the acclaimed Bolshoi and Mariinsky Theatres. “Russian music is often rich in orchestral colour, and can be highly dramatic in the use of both dynamics and harmony which enables a great degree of expressive communication for the audience. It can also be extremely virtuosic, and this program is certainly going to be a great challenge for the players”.
Also on the program with Prokofiev’s Alexander Nevsky (based on the composer’s score for the 1938 Sergei Eisenstein film Alexander Nevsky, which has remained one of the most renowned cantatas of the 20th century) are three much-loved and spectacular Russian masterpieces: Borodin’s famous ‘Polovtsian Dances’ from the opera ‘Prince Igor’, Mussorgsky’s haunting ‘Dawn on the Moscow River’ (Prelude to the opera ‘Khovantschina) and Shostakovich’s dynamic Festive Overture in A major, Op. 96, written by Shostakovich in 1954 for a concert held at the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow to commemorate the 37th anniversary of the October Revolution.

Спектакль рассказывает о любви, жизни, предательстве, секретах, мечтах и страхах друзей. Действие происходит в квартире Ивана Костромитина, инвалида войны в Афганистане. Однокласники собираются отметить сорокалетие героя. У каждого своя судьба и каждый хочет что-то в ней исправить.
Пьеса написана одним из самых популярных российских писателей Юрием Поляковым и поставлена режиссером театра «Пилигрим» Ириной Ингман, она с успехом прошла на сцене Сиднея и Окленда (Новая Зеландия).

23-24 November 2012 Pilgrim Entertainment Group invite everyone to the play by Yuri Polyakov THE CLASSMATES.
THE CLASSMATES is a story about old school mates who grew up in a changing Russia around the fall of the Iron Curtain and during Perestroika, which brought the country from Stagnation to New Russia where Mafiosi millionaires emerged and acquired their capitals due to deterioration of economic situation and inter-ethnic clashes. The play is about love, life, beliefs, betrayals, dreams and personal reflections on the era of old school friends. The action takes place in a flat of Ivan Kostromitin, a disabled Afghanistan war hero. His schoolmates come to celebrate his 40th birthday. Everyone has a story to tell and everyone wants to improve their life.
This play is written by one of the most popular Russian writers Yuri Polyakov, who personally gave the script of the play to Pilgrim Entertainment Group in London, and directed by Irina Ingman whose contemporary approach and vividness of the ideas have won the appreciation of Russian and English-speaking spectators in Sydney and New Zealand.

6. VOLUNTEER EMPLOYMENT CONSULTANTS AVAILABLE
For 16 years, the Russian Council ran an Employment Service which was funded by the government to provide advice to unemployed job-seekers, suggest innovative job search strategies, source and direct the unemployed to vacancies, provide work experience, mentoring opportunities. Our Employment Team was able to place a total of 1,600 Russians into on-going employment. Unfortunately, two years ago, this funding was cut; although the Russian migration and people approaching our organisation continued. We are now proud to announce, that due to the kind generosity of two experienced recruitment specialists, RERC is able to offer “EmploymentHelp”. People can come and get advice on their resumes, cover letters, interview skills, and support in their job-search process. People will be asked to bring all relevant paperwork and also electronic copies of their material on a USB memory stick. This will be a free service, but we ask that people be willing to leave at least a gold coin donation. Days of operation: Monday and Thursday from 5pm to 7.30pm. The 2012-2013 Multicultural Festivals and Events Grants Program Round Two Grants are now open.
The Victorian Government aims to promote the social, cultural and economic benefits of cultural diversity to all Victorians. The Multicultural Festival and Events Grants are designed to encourage the participation of the whole community in celebrating and valuing cultural diversity.
The grants are awarded to encourage cross cultural awareness as well as foster intercultural relationships, community contributions, mutual respect, understanding and community unity.

These grants support the vital role multicultural Senior Citizens' organisations play in contributing towards building a multicultural Victoria and preserving our rich cultural and linguistic diversity. If your organisation is currently receiving a Seniors Citizens Organisational Support grant in 2012-13 as part of a three year funding agreement, you do not need to re-apply for this grant. 12. PUBLIC LIABILITY INSURANCE FOR MULTICULTURAL SENIOR CITIZENS ORGANISATIONS
All Multicultural Senior Citizens Organisations currently receiving a Multicultural Senior Citizens Organisational Support Grant are eligible to apply for public liability insurance coverage for 2013. Public Liability Insurance is not automatically awarded and organisations need to apply via the the attached form. Certificates of insurance will be provided in December 2012 to all groups who are eligible and have made an application.
