Hi,

My research group recently transitioned to new hardware, and we are having problems running VESTA on the new system.  Version 2 (x86_64, downloaded 3/8/2013) crashes with a segmentation fault while version 3 (x86_64, downloaded 3/8/2013) gives me an assertion failure.  I cannot seem to diagnose the problem, so I would like to know if anyone can help.

assert "vi" failed in wxGLContext(): invalid visual for OpenGL

This pops up as an error message and the main window is never displayed.

The operating system is a version of red-hat linux maintained by my university, and ldd shows no missing libraries for VESTA.

I look forward to any troubleshooting advice that can be obtained.

Andrew

Hi Andrew,

Creation of OpenGL canvas is failing in your OS.
I don't know if the problem is in VESTA, wxWidgets toolkit, your OS or
hardware. To separate the problem, please try whether other OpenGL based
programs (e.g., XCrysDen, Olex2) run correctly in your environment.

Regards,
Koichi

Hi Koichi,

Thanks for your response this weekend.  I tried running the two applications you suggest, with no real success.  XCrysDen fails with missing libXss.so.  olex2 fails with a seg fault.  I also use Tecplot 360 for data visualization (is also uses opengl), and I was only able to run that program by forcing it to use the mesa libraries.  Is there a way to force VESTA to use mesa?

Andrew
