Hi everyone,

I see that there are a lot of posts on this issue already, but I have tried the various suggestions without any luck.

I am using 64 bit Win 10 and have downloaded the newest version of Vesta (v 3.3.2 for 64 bit). I have also downloaded the Rietan-FP Venus package (v 2.71). I changed the settings for Rietan to go to Rietan.exe (I also tried Rietan64.exe) and I left the template as the default (I also tried going into the Rietan Venus_examples and using various .ins templates in there). I can visualize a structure fine, but when I try to generate a powder diffraction pattern it always says "Rietan stopped with an error. Check the output file, "LPO.lst"." And when I hit a key it brings up the .lst file. I figure I must be doing something wrong, but can not figure it out.

Any help in getting this going would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Chris

Hi Chris,

Check the latest change-log of VESTA.
From version 3.3.2, VESTA is able to generate simple powder diffraction pattern without RIETAN-FP.
"Added a built-in dialog box for simulation of X-ray powder diffraction pattern. It will be used when RIETAN-FP is not installed in the PC or the path of RIETAN-FP is erased in the Preferences dialog box. The built-in simulation feature is still very primitive and you cannot edit conditions yet, except for wave length of X-ray source."

Nishimura

Hi Nishimura,

thanks for your help. I thought I had tried that, but after returning to the default .ins template and removing the RIETAN-FP path it worked great with version 3.3.2.

Thanks again for your help,
Chris

Hi,

after simulating a few patterns, the image of the powder pattern has now disappeared. I tried restarting Vesta, then updating Java, making a new structure, restarting my computer, reinstalling Vesta 3.2.2 and still no image. I can export a PDF and see the pattern fine, but for some reason it is not showing it in the pop up window. Right now I have no viewer specified, I tried putting in the path to powderplot, but that did not help. Sorry for having so much trouble.

Thanks,
Chris
