Hi there,
so first, great tool! Here comes the question:
Is there any way of changing the color of all selected atoms? The problem is that I want to highlight a part of my structure which consists just of a single element. However, I am only able to change the coloring one by one or element-wise but not just for the selection.
Any help is welcome!

Best
Benedikt

That feature is not supported.

Maybe I should consider adding such feature in future.
Thank you for giving me an idea.

Regards,
Koichi

Dear Koichi,
is there any update on that? Would be still very useful to get that feature.

Cheers,

I would also find it quite useful.
Vesta is a great tool, thank you.

As a workaround, it's possible to replace the selected atoms with a different element type, then set the size of the atom to match everything else and choose whichever colour you want it to be.

If you're making use of symmetry to generate the atom positions, you may need to go to 'Edit | Edit Data | Unit Cell...' and click 'Remove symmetry'.  This will generate an entry for every single atom in the 'Structure parameters' tab, from which you can change the ones you want.

Hope that helps,
Phil

Or you can modify the atoms directly in a text file if other options don't work:
For example,

1 open .cif file
2 modify boundaries to size you want
3 File --> export data --> select .xyz format from drop down menu --> save
4 Open .xyz in Notepad or other text editor
5 Swap out the atoms you want (e.g., "Mg" to "Ni") and save
6 open new file .xyz in VESPA

Vesta is a really excellent program.

Just wondering if there is any update on coloring the selected atoms - as looking to use Vesta to do some solid state chemistry teaching and this would be really useful. (can not really get the students editing text files!)

cheers

Graeme
