Dear all,

I use Vesta 3.3.9 64-bit (build date Oct 4 2006) on Ubuntu 16.04.2 LTS with the last updates. Whenever I change the atom type in the "Structural Parameters" tab in the "Edit Data" window and I choose "apply" or "OK", Vesta freezes and I have to force the quit. Also, if I change the color so some atoms and then I try to load an other structure, VESTA freezes too. Maybe the two things are related, since it looks like the atom colors create such problem, but I am not sure.

Thanks a lot in advance for your kind help

All the best

Antonio

Dear Cammarata,

This problem is also happening with me. In my case, I can neither open a structure by normal path: (File >> Open).
I am looking forward to know how to fix it.

Regards.

Dear Antonio and Enesio,

Similar problem here. I just can't open any .vasp files anymore! The program freezes and I have to xkill it. I updated from 3.3.9 to the latest version (3.4.0 I suppose) and It is still not working. I tried installing it system-wide using the rpm package (I'm using Centos 7 64bits) and still nothing. This is very frustrating because it makes the program completely useless if I can't open vasp files...

Best wishes,

I am experiencing the same type of problems. As far as I understand it, the problem is related to the automatic detection of bonds. So you can reduce the number of crashes if you remove the self-drawing of bonds (from the general option)
