Hi,

I am just able to see the balls and not the stick in the ball and stick view. Please tell me how to view both.

Thanks

This is because by default, VESTA doesn't know which atoms should be bonded to which other atoms.  You must tell it which atoms should be connected.  To do this, click 'Edit | Bonds...' and create a new bond.  Select the atoms involved and the length of the bond - this will be the maximum distance apart those atoms can be and still be connected by a bond.  Now when you view in ball and stick mode, the bonds should be visible.

Hope this helps,
Philip

Dear Philip,

I have followed your direction, it still doesn't show up :/ Is there any more trick?
Click "Edit--> Bonds--> Click my structure --> Click new --> Add any bonds --> Apply

It doesn't show up.

Thanks your help

Dear Berna,

Two ideas: firstly, it appears from your screenshot that each of your atoms has a different label.  If you leave the 'Search by label' box in the Bonds dialogue ticked, VESTA will only search for instances of Zr1 bonded to O1 and Zr1 bonded to O2.  You should still see SOME bonds though.

Therefore, my other suggestion is that the distances between atoms you want to bond is greater than 1.6 Å, and so outside the bond length range you're searching.  You can check the interatomic distances using the measurement tool along the left side of the main window.  The fix is as simple as increasing the maximum bond length.

Hope that helps,
Philip
