Is it possible to write default settings in one of ini files or so?
Now I write settings for  the bond lengths in the [bonds] panel and for the boundary in the [boundary] panel every time, and I must handle tens of cube files.
I wonder whether I can write them in a file and read it when VESTA starts.

Though there is no option to save default bonds setting, you can use
*.vesta files as a template file.

First, open one data set and define bonds, boundary, or whatever
properties. Then save it as *.vesta.

Next, instead of opening another data set directly, open (a copy of) the
previous *.vesta file, open "Edit Data" dialog box and select "Structure
parameters" page. Press the "Import" button at the bottom of the page,
and import a new structure data. Close the "Edit Data" dialog box by
pressing OK button. By this way, only structure data can be overwritten
while preserving other graphical properties.

For the meaning of "Link" check box in the "Edit Data" dialog box,
please consult users manual.

Best regards,

Koichi

If possible, I like to control VESTA without GUI.
Is it possible to give  bond length (and radius) when I invoke VESTA  from command line ?
Or are there some ways to communicate with python or bash?

I know there is demands for command-line interface but it is not ready yet.
Defining default bond lengths and atom pairs are also not possible.
I would like to add such features in the future.

For those who still are dealing with this issue, what I do is first I do all my preferred settings in one temp.vesta fille.
Then I open all other files which I wish to edit in vesta, and save them just as they are (no editing) in vesta format.
now I open temp.vesta with all other un-editted *.vesta files in a text editor - now you can simply copy/paste the parts which you wish to be similar from temp.vesta to *.vesta, save and re-open in vesta. The settings will be present.
e.g. for bond settings, copy the 'sbond' part.

Firstly, I am sorry to bump this thread. I have the same issue.
I am currently using the latest version of VESTA (3.4.6, built on January 2019) on Windows 10 OS.
I have a suspicion that instead of copying from 'style.ini', VESTA.exe rebuilds 'default.ini' from scratch or so everytime the process starts (or ends, not sure when).
So I did the following:
  1. Make a copy or backup for 'default.ini',
  2. Modify the SBOND part as necessary and then save the file,
  3. Changing the permission access for 'default.ini' into 'read only'.
When I started VESTA, the bond settings were somehow preserved. However, when the process was closed, an error message popped up:
"The style file style/default.ini could not be opened for writing".
(The error message was the reason of my suspicion before)

Afterwards, I reverted back the permission access. The error message disappeared but the modified 'default.ini' stayed.

I am not sure whether this will introduce some instability to the process. However, this method worked for me (at least for now).

Finally, I want to thank Dr. Koichi Momma and Dr. Fujio Izumi for making and maintaining this beautiful software.

With best regards,

nvnt
