Kaliprasanna Singha was not only a translator, but also a writer and a playwright. He wrote several original works, such as Vidyotsahini Natak (1854), a play based on the life of Rani Laxmibai of Jhansi, and Sabitri Satyaban (1858), a play based on a story from the Mahabharata. He also wrote Hootum Pyanchar Naksha (1861-1862), a collection of humorous and satirical sketches that depict the social life of 19th century Kolkata. He used the pen name Hootum Pyancha, which means "a watching owl", to write these sketches.
