to Very Open Mic
So seems the "Coleman Still" or whatever it's called now has closed
again. I think it's about time to call this Open Mic Spot DAS.

I tried the Mission Coffee (Fremont Coffee) the other night, It's a
Friday night Open Mic, it's a “run what you brung night” too, So
spoken word, Acoustic songs, "Rap" with a Boom box (Karaoke?) anyway.
So the small stage is cool, and seating is adequate, it’s very “coffee
house”.
The coffee (latte’) is very good and reasonable cost, (read as less
than Starbucks), good service too.

The sound system could be good, has good equipment but not really
anyone who knows how to run it. The speakers are quality and the
soundboard is nice but placing the speakers on the floor the sound is
muddy and for spoken word, it takes away all chances of understand a
word said. Worse for “Rap” if it can get worse. Over all. Not
impressed.

The performances. Most were pretty good, well entertaining lets say,
“good” is such a subjective word.
The “Rap” was odd and the use of a “Boom Box” (I-Pod style) made it
seem so “Karaoke” although original rhyme it was very “Video”
influenced, yo yo. What ever happened to the "beat poet”? A set of
Bongos and man I'm ready to do it.

Acoustic songs were interesting, mostly originals, why is it people
who write their own stuff always make it soo long? Come on 2.5-3.5 max
man. But the mix of players was good, from a 8th grader to an Open Mic
veteran.

Still though overall not impressed, they really need someone who has
the knowledge to set up the sound so it’s clean and rich. If they can
do that much this Friday nightspot could be standing room only.
