At the time of the PLOS submission, VertNet was under review in the
Advances in Biological Informatics (ABI) program at NSF. It has since
been funded with a starting date of 1 May 2011. We have begun
development, and have a functioning API which we are currently testing
with integration partners. If your interest is in the API itself and
its capabilities, now would be a great time to have you involved and
get your feedback. If you seek the API in order to get the data of
VertNet, we're not at that point yet - we're only testing with partial
or manufactured data. Once our data model and API are stable, we'll
start to integrate the data partners, with a target of completing that
task over then next twelve months. Either way, we're interested to
know how you would like to use VertNet.
