Howevernothing (and particularly in the world of consumer electronics!) lasts forever and after plenty of playing or generally standing the test of time, components do wear out, short circuit or simply stop working.

Unlike their acoustic cousins, digital pianos have a significantly shorter lifespan. An acoustic instrument may last between 50 to 100 years and longer with restoration, a digital piano is likely to last 5-15 years. This difference is reflected in the price of purchase and the residual value, whilst acoustic pianos generally hold their notional value you can expect a digital piano to have lost 60-70% of its initial value after 5 years.

For the most part, a well kept and high quality digital piano from major brands such as Casio, Kawai, or Yamaha will generally last 8-15 years on average. During this time, small issues may be repairable such as failing sensors, speakers buzzing, or issue with broken sockets such as the power jack or headphones. That being said, we have seen digital pianos 25 years and older that are still in full working order.

The good news is the manufacturers know this shelf life and as such, most digital pianos are given warranties of 2-5 years. After this time, you may still be able to get the instrument repaired if you can get the spare parts and find an electronics engineer who can service it for you. It then becomes a matter of deciding on the economics of repair.

For instruments not from the major manufacturers this can be even worse, you may not be able to sell your instrument at all. As an example, a Gear4Music Portable Piano at 229 has a Trade-in price with Gear4Music of 76.20 in excellent condition and full working order*. This means it loses 67% of its value almost immediately.

An electronic engineer call-out can cost 100-180 depend on where you live plus parts if it can be fixed. You need to careful assess this cost against the cost of replacement. At Millers we want to try and avoid waste where possible so we will take instruments, even those not working and try to repair and recycle them as part of our Sustainability programs

If your digital piano has stopped working, the first step is to try to rule out obvious issues yourself. This may be as simple as the fuse in the power supply going, or a cable breaking, but could equally as easily be a software corruption, or small component failure.

The second point to be made here is that piano tuners and technicians are very different from those who repair digital pianos. Generally speaking, most piano tuners and technicians only focus on acoustic instruments. Digital pianos have specialist components and often require specialist tools to diagnose and repair This is a specialist job that a specialist company will have to undertake. We recommend our friends at Puretech Solutions.

Hey Randy, wanted to say thanks again for the great job you did restoring the action on the keys of my Yamaha P-200 digital piano! The action, which was previously very noisy on the upstops for all the keys, is now practically dead silent! Furthermore, I was quite happy you were able to fix the problem with the sustain function on the keyboard as well! Everything is playing great now, thanks again for the great work you guys do!

I just want to thank Randy for the great job he did in repairing my Yamaha SO8 Synthesizer. I took it in because of a couple of sticking keys. Randy went the extra mile and contacted Yamaha and the whole keyboard was replaced at no charge. I was totally surprised when Randy told me the cost of the repair. All I can say is I'm going to be a repeat customer for all my keyboard and guitar amplifier repairs. If you want great service with honest reasonable prices you can't beat Keyboard Service. Thanks Randy!!

I had the privilege of talking with you on the phone several months ago when a couple of keys on my 2-year old Yamaha Arranger would not play. I was ready to haul it over to you, Randy, but you gave me such excellent advice over the phone that you saved me a trip. Now how`s that for service?! I am convinced that, not only are you amazingly knowledgeable, you`re willing to keep us musicians on stage with your expert advice. I look forward to meeting you when the need arises. Thank you!

Hello Randy & crew,I wanted to say Thanks So Very Much for the great repair job you performed on my sons Yamaha S08 weighted synth / keyboard ! His keyboard was starting to show mechanical problems after several years of use and I decided to open er up with my own awesome set of tools to see if I could find the issue. After I removed some 20,000 screws, I concluded that I could come to no conclusion as to the cause and thus decided to search the Net for information. I found some postings about the same problem with this keyboard and that Yamaha would offer replacement of the keyboard action itself. They gave me your contact and I came down to your shop, my head bowed in humbled humility with the sad pieces and a bag of the remaining bits.Your crew did an outstanding job of not only working the replacement with Yamaha, but that of putting all the pieces back together! The keyboard works great and my son is now back working on becoming the next Keith Emerson, Keith Jarrett or Keith Partridge. I enjoyed talking with you guys your shop is a treasure trove for those interested in Hammond B3s & Leslies. I have never seen so many beautifully-restored keyboards. I have been a roady-type around 1970s Rock bands and have designed and built 1970s analog voltage controlled synthesizers. I have seen lots of keyboards & classic organs like the B3. The restoration work on your keyboards is amazing completely removing the mechanical & electrical, fully restored wood finishing, pad replacement of the keys themselves, and capacitor replacements. The new keyboard actions play like butter! Anyone looking for a B3 must go to your shop & try out these restored versions. For those looking at Randy he has done work for numerous professional musicians James Taylor, Earth Wind & Fire, Greg Rolie (Santana / Journey) to name a few. My assessment Randy has a well-equipped repair shop, an extremely knowledgeable staff and does an outstanding job. His restoration work is nothing short of artistic. His guys were friendly, fun and did a GREAT job! I have given your contact info to my sons piano teacher for further networking. Thanks again!

Thank you so much for all your efforts in making John`s 60th Birthday Surprise truly memorable. We went out for dinner with the girlfriend, who works in Kearney Mesa. John spent much of the evening explaining the unique properties of the Hammond to a very tolerant girlfriend but was mostly in disbelief that he really owns a Hammond B3.He woke up this morning with a big smile, still slightly incredulous!!We will be in touch late March early April to arrange a luncheon party for you, the Hammond and it`s speakers. Thanks again - Trish

Just wanted to report back to you that I absolutely love my A100! I spent a day just cleaning it and the Leslie up once it got here. As you can see, it cleans up pretty nicely. My organ tech brought over the Leslie the day after the organ arrived. He released the tone-wheel generator and did some other minor adjustments and its been perfect ever since. I didn`t really have room for it so I ended up completely reorganizing and then redecorating my office to accomodate the two. Now I`ve got it integrated into the room and I just love the sound. Thanks for your fine restoration and maintenance of the instrument. I hope to be playing it for many years and its already a great addition to my studio. If you ever need a reference from anyone in LA you can use me. I`d even be willing to let others come over and hear it. I think Gianni is pretty much sold on buying from you, too. Once again, MAHALO!

I have been playing and collecting keyboards/synths for most of my life. I`ve gathered quite a collection. I only bring my gear, especially the old analog synths to Keyboard Service. Randy & Tim are the best Techs I have ever encountered in my 30 some years of playing professionally. Honestly, don`t waste your time with anyone else! These guys are the best!

Hi Randy, September 4th, 2013 Often times when you do work for someone, they call to complain. This time around is to Thank you for a job well done.
