Split Backlog Item

When I split a Backlog Item and assign the remainder to the next sprint, I rename them Part 1 & Part 2 respectively.

Should I mark Part 1 as Accepted or leave it In Progress (what I’ve been doing)?

Does that status field affect the Velocity graph, or other reports?

The status field will not affect your Velocity chart. The only chart it will affect is Cumulative Flow (available on the standup dashboard version of the Taskboard, for instance). This shows a bar graph sliced by story status. It is not a critical report, and you may actually find it useful to know you left a “piece” of a story behind in that sprint by viewing the cumulative flow chart in that case.
