Story estimation is done to ensure work pulled into the sprint matches the velocity for the team. Task estimation is done as a double-check that the tasks associated with the work can be accomplished in the time available. Once a team really gets rocking and starts to move up the Shu-Ha-Ri progression, task estimation often becomes unnecessary and, ultimately, stories get sliced so thinly that the final unit of work becomes the story, not the task. Collaboration on stories happens transparently.
But that's not where you're at right now, I'd guess. How are you estimating your stories and your tasks? Are you using story points or hours, and for which?
