In the current REST API, you can't really get two asset types at once. But here are some tips to query for each in such a way that you can "stitch them together" on the client side.

First, you query for Issues asking for the attributes you want (with "sel") and for the filtered subset you want (with "where").

https://www14.v1host.com/v1sdktesting/rest-1.v1/data/Issue?sel=Name,Description,Number&where=AssetState='Active'

Next, you do a similar query on Defects:

https://www14.v1host.com/v1sdktesting/rest-1.v1/data/Defect?sel=Name,Description,Number,Issues.Number&where=Issues[AssetState='Active']

In this query pay particular attention to sel=Issues.Number so that you can join up to the Issues. And to where=Issues which brings back only Defects which have at least 1 Issue relationship. And to the filter [AssetState='Active'] which corresponds to the where clause of the first query and makes sure you only get Defects for Issues that meet the same criteria.

In a release coming soon, we plan to have a mechanism for fetching the graph of assets in one API call. Stay tuned!
