Hi all, I've been doing a bunch of reading here on docs and the fb group. Kudos to Min and all the others who have spent so much time documenting this radio.

I'm trying to set it up for a mobile tracker. I'm using a google pixel 6 running HT.
My radio firmware version is 0.6.6

I have adjusted the squelch to 10 (although I live in the middle of nowhere, and have almost no noise floor).
I only have one channel programmed in, and that's 144.39, the US APRS freq.

Here are screenshots of my settings:

I am able to use the PTT button on the HT app and can hear it key up on my kenwood talkie. I can see it sending to the internet, but it won't transmit APRS data over RF.

I disabled the KISS mode. I THINK I have all the other settings correct, as I've spent a couple days now fidgeting with it before I gave up and asked.

Suggestions? Am I missing something?

Thank you in advance,

Melissa

Hi need to see the ID page settings.

You say you have turned off kiss mode????
Do you other things connected to the radio?

I think that's the bit that I was missing. I read somewhere that I didn't need to set. ID signaling because that wasn't an aprs thing or something so I don't think I ever clicked on that menu. I have now clicked on it and I am sending screenshots of what I have set up currently. My last position still shows over TCP and not over RF, but maybe I'm on the right track now?

Turn off all 3 id switches as not required as they do radio position marking at the end of each tx.

You need to have the radio doing a beacon via this page.
Test it by setting it to a short period. The radio should tx RF.

You will only show on APRS.fi if there is a station local that hears you.

In general settings select the channel for APRS.

I'm also showing a test id screen for your info.

Thank you! I've made the changes accordingly. Am I correct in reading that my-9 is showing up on Aprs.fi as a TCP relay and thus not actually transmitting on RF? I will get a talkie to verify that I still don't hear any data coming out of it, but I would think it would show the call sign that I got digipeated through, assuming somebody local could hear me. Is there a way to make my beacons only transmit over RF and not gate to the Internet temporarily while I test it?
Thanks in advance!

Melissa

Turn off internet section or set the timing to a long time.

You can make the radio just do rf.

Look at the logs on APRS.fi to see the input it will show it as IP or RF.

You do need to have an RF station receiving your signals as APRS.fi will show the latest signal received.

OK I have it digipeating (transmitting via RF) other signals now. I still don't see that it beacons. I have it set to beacon every 20 minutes.

There isn't a way to say "manually beacon now" is there? Ugh!

Melissa,

If I missed this bit of information in a previous post, my apologies.

Have you tried looking on aprs.fi ? I know with mine, I have mine set the beacon every five minutes, but it does not show my icon on my map in the app. If I go to aprs.fi, it shows my icon placed correctly on the map. I don’t know why it doesn’t show your icon on the map all the time in the app.

I hope I understood your question correctly.

Hi Chris, thanks for the input...Yes I've checked aprs.fi and it doesn't show there. It's currently sitting here in my shack while I try to figure it out. I hear the relay click when it transmits, usually after I hear someone else's aprs "brap". But listening to 144.39 with a talkie, or even listening for that transmit relay, it isn't transmitting a beacon/status ever over RF.

I'm about to purchase the same radio this week. I was struggling about how I can share the same antenna with an APRS igate and my radio, until I found this one at the approx same cost my other option was (specialised mux).

As read lot of manual, but couldn't find the answers. So but it seam the internet connexion (and maybe other APRS stuff) can only be assumed by a third party device? (phone, tablet)

If not, can I leave this radio open, and it will act as an APRS igate relay (RF an Internet)? (or i will need to dedicated a mobile device to assume that role, like an Amazon Fire Tablet)?
If I'm talking to a repeater, the APRS can still operate on a second channel? Or i need to set it back here once I finished.?

I intend to replace my Retevjs RT95 used as base station with this beauty.

The radio will happily use the same antenna without any additional items.
It switches to APRS tx when required and the radio will monitor 2 bands taking in APRS if the other band is not in use.

To use the internet and get it's last position it uses the phone GPS. You can use the radio without internet but it will only digi repeat.

Hope that helps.
