The VSP board will be meeting this Thursday evening at 6pm in Montpelier. We are always looking for new board members so if you have any interest please let me know. We only meet face to face once a year so it is not very demanding. Remember that this is now a moderated list so to reply to me use plumb....@gmail.com To reply to the group just hit reply and then I will have to approve the message.

There are some interesting related activities going on that could help our cause.

Vermont has passed legislation that requires the addition of a Genuine Progress Indicator as a measure of our well being.
A conference will be held on May 30th to determine what indicators will be used to measure GPI. Hopefully a sustainable or stable population size will be one of the indicators.  I will likely attend to press for this although I am sure it will be a hard sell. It would be great if some other populationists would attend as well.  FYI VSP was the first organization in Vermont to endorse changing GPI to another indicator. Here are the details.
What Matters
Gross National Happiness USA and the Gund Institute for Ecological Economics with Common Good VT present a working conference on Well-being and Happiness Measures for Vermont at The Davis Center, University of Vermont
Burlington, VT Wednesday, May 30, 2012.

Also, our own Bill Ryerson is running for vice-president of the U.S.A.! Yes, along with Bob Dietz for president they are running to promote the idea of a steady state economy which of course also means a steady population size. They know they won’t win but just want to enter the idea of a steady state economy into the minds of the public. Again VSP was the first organization in Vermont to endorse a steady state economy. True sustainability will only be achieved with population stabilization.
