Hi all,

Hope all is well. We're trying to run some tests on powdery mildew,
but can't seem to find any. Anyone got any they want to share?

Thanks,

I was told by Emmmet Dunbar the farmer here at Anjali Farm in South
Londonderry that one of your students has hops growing in nearby
Landgrove and is doing research on Powdery Mildew .

My Old growth Willamettes are no showing any signs of Mildew yet and
any new palntings have not shown any instances of it but we would be
willing to help with any trails .FWIW we didnt get any late blight on
our hierloom tomatoes last year either ,could we also be free of the
specific strain of powdery mildew that effects hops (Podosphaera
macularis) for now in the Northeast and what steps could we take to
minimize powdery mildew coming back from out west especially when we
are typically buying rhizomes from sellers in the Upper Midwest and
Pacific Northwest .Could UVM look into propagating softwood cuttings
form your own variety trails .Ive started a few experimental cuttings
here at Anjali farm just to see how they will take .I also think using
American Cultivars like Cascade ,Sterling Mt Hood and other varieties
that are have been bred for disease resistance helps instead of
growing Noble Hops that tend to be more susceptible to hop specific
dieseases .

Any others looking for signs of powdery mildew heres a guide

No mildew's showing up in my yard, nor did I have any sign last year
despite the presence of the blight in the potatoes downwind and
various other nuisances that show up. We relocated our entire yard
last year by excavator so no telling what the season will ultimately
bring....

Hi all, I planted cascade, fuggle, mt hood, nugget, sterling,
willamette, and zeus, all from freshops. Tom's Vermont hop and
another native from a neighbor in Shaftsbury. So far all have
started, Mt Hood and Willamette were earliest and most vigorous.
Cascade unfortunately has been most sluggish but I'm patient... No
signs of any problems yet.

thanks, don wilson

I am starting to grow several varieties of hops in Addison. I have
not seen any signs of powdery mildew, yet. My fuggle, cascade,
newport and perle are growing especially well and seem very healthy.
