Hi.  I am very interested in an onsite blackwater (and graywater) management in our home that is to be built.  Aside from coming across the website of Wendy Howard, I also came across Biodigester Septic Tanks (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dRTqG4Wzuso&t=57s).  This concept seems to be almost similar to the vermifilter setup although in a lot of the videos I have watched, there were no earthworms introduced to the system.  The usual setup is composed of the primary digester with porous filter materials (coconut fiber, charcoal, gravel) then the effluent ends up in a soak pit filled with big rocks.

Hi Bellpepper, welcome to the group.
The biodigester septic tank and Wendy Howards vermicomposting toilet both use the same principle as the Primary treatment vermidigester. They use a soak pit for the liquid effluent, just like a septic tank.
The difference is that vermifilter.com then uses a secondary vermifilter to treat the liquid effluent so that it can be irrigated to the soil surface. This requires a higher level of treatment than the biodigester/vermicomposting toilet. The advantage with surface irrigation is that the dripper pipes can be moved around the garden to provide water and nutrients for plant growth, therefore a much larger available disposal field. If you don't want to recycle your waste then just build a vermidigester and soak pit.
Cheers
Dean
