How long will worms survive without use? Is there a feeding schedule?

I suspect the length of time worms can go without input may depend on the type of media used, as some media could be a long term food source.  This page has some info on winter slowdown and what to do if you go away that may be helpful:  http://www.vermicompostingtoilets.net/function-maintenance/
